Kentucky doesn't collect sales tax on purchases of most prescription drugs and groceries. In general, necessities such as groceries, clothes, and drugs are exempted from the sales tax or charged at a lower sales tax rate. Some exceptions, however, include "luxury items" like expensive clothing, drinks like soda, and certain non-essential pharmaceuticals.

So some consumables ARE taxed.....candy, carbonated beverages, hot foods.
But your general GROCERIES..... produce, canned goods, pastas, meat, dairy, frozen foods, ect are not taxed.
