Hi Everyone: I am interested in hearing what you all think of the latest news. Did you hear about the BIG change coming at JC Penney?? Is it for ALL their stores in any states? I know it is coming here in Florida!
I doubt that it will work out for them in the long run though. They just don't have enough variety in their stores. People are so short on time these days, they would rather run into a Target/Wal-Mart etc where they can get everything they need at once. What do you think? I also think that the "SALE" mentality will be hard to shake. If people think that they can get the item at that price ANY time, then they will postpone buying. I know that I would! What gets me out the door is time-limited sales and/or coupons!!
What does everyone think???

Last year, I LOVED the on-line Clearance and got awesome deals. This year, all I get is frustration when everything I go to buy is No Longer Available. I think they have not updated the Clearance part of their website in a very long time. At first glance you think, Wow ~ look at that for just $5.00, and then when you try to get it, you are out of luck! That order I was talking about in my other post took soooo long to order because after looking through everything, finding things in the right size/color it would end up that the item was sold out. OMG it was very frustrating. So when I received the order I was so disappointed and irratated that I never want to shop there again.

Not enough selection, poor quality and high prices. Last summer I bought a bunch of clothes online for my youngest. I returned everythng. The quality was cheap. One thing I bought was a printed tee. The 'iron on' design was sticky. Shorts fell apart after one wash on gentle. I gathered it all up and headed to the store. The returns counter didn't even ask why I was returning the whole order. Ugh...waste of time and money.

They have in the past been a great source for Big & Tall, and other special size clothing. I hope that they don't stop having all those hard-to-find sizes! For instance, my daughter had not been able to get her teenage boys any lounge pants that were long enough for them, until I told her about JCP. Walmart does not have what I would call career wear... nor do they have a very nice quality plus size department. I shop at Jc Penney's for this stuff because it's better quality and I can get great deals on clearance. There are very few places to find inexpensive clothing for work.

about being able to find some of the Special" clothing sizes. Not many stores have those like JCP has had. I think Sears has some, but they are closing many stores. For instance Juniors PLUS, and kids plus sizes! When my granddaughters were younger, JCP was one of the few stores that carried girls quality jeans in SLIM sizes. I hope those Dept's won't all be a victim of their re-organization.
Well if nothing else, it will be interesting to see what develops!

Well i went to get my jeans today and was not happy. They moved everything around and the jeans i normally get were 3 times higher then the last time. I noticed the signing was different everywhere and they didnt have any clearance racks. They did have items on sale though i didnt look very close. I bought the jeans anyway:-\

I really hope that part of the transition will be their fixing their website to be functional again. I have really missed the great deals I used to get there!
I heard today that someone got a really nice book/catalog from them, and that it was very upscale. To me, that means their prices might be UP too.

It sure is a fancy book. They spent alot of money to have this printed and mailed. I would have rather had a discount on my purchases.
The everyday prices didn't impress me. I think they are high in price.
I will not go out of my way to shop at JC Penney anymore. I think when people do shop there, they will buy less and only buy what they really need. There is no incentive to stock up or spend more. Gone is the shopping thrill.

On their facebook, they are talking about "primal scream therapy" which is creepy too, from rationalwiki:
Primal scream therapy, or simply primal therapy, was an odd bit of woo popularized by Arthur Janov in his 1970 book, The Primal Scream. His theory was that psychological problems are caused by early childhood trauma, such as during birth. These traumatic incidents could be re-experienced and then emotionally discharged by expressing them during therapy by screaming. John Lennon and Steve Jobs were brief adherents of the movement.

It was also interesting to read that such a low percentage of items EVER sold for full price. In fact most sold at approx. 1/2 price!
Actually, after reading all that, the ""new"" concept reminds me of Wal-Mart, and the rapidly expanding proliferation of "Dollar-type" stores. I do like Family Dollar, Dollar General,etc. And I have read that stores like Wal-Mart are actually losing business to those small stores. It seems that people want to just "RUN IN" and grab the few things that they need daily, and not face parking nightmares, HUGE stores where you have to walk to furthest back corner to get a quart of milk etc. Long lines to check-out etc
I have no education in advertising, but I have been a price-conscious consumer for decades, and I still don't understand this new concept and how it makes ANY sense!! Maybe they could have kept the older style or retailing and just had significantly fewer than 500+ promotions. Maybe they could simplify those sales.
What will become of their website sales?? I haven't seen any mention of that. Does anyone know?
Oh well, I guess we'll all get our first look in a couple of days. Initial interest will keep them busy for a while. I wish them luck, AND, I hope part of the new transformation includes shopping carts!!
