But if he works 2 jobs, he is intitled to deduct som. In effect he cannot deduct one round trip ,extras ok. But not worth it. He has to subtract 15% of income for the misc deduction 2|2|Agreed...it is the cost of "choosing" to work so far from your home|Abbicca|Abbicca@insightbb.com|21:11:26|01/25/2012|

I know nowadays it isn't always a CHOICE to work that far from home, but if it is his one and only job then his daily commute (no matter how far) isn't deductible. Sorry!! The IRS figures you can always move closer to your job or find a job closer to your home.....the IRS doesn't care to take into consideration either the housing market OR the job market. 3|3|there is a deduction for moving more than 50 miles to take a job yes?|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|21:25:07|01/25/2012|

that in the past....for my husbands case .....he would have had to gone from home

to the office.....then off to the work place for it to be allowed to be counted.......but last year they

told use the rules had changed...and we were allowed to claim milage from home..to the work site.....and back home.......and was told to keep up with it thru out the yr 5|5|it depends on whether he is self employed or not|carmenanderson|cloudcars@verizon.net|11:31:28|01/26/2012|

First.... yes, cinda you can take moving expenses if you move more than 50 miles for work related reasons.

Second, there is a BIG difference between EMPLOYEES and SELF EMPLOYED people when it comes to deducting work expenses.

The OP made it sound like her husband goes to the same place everyday for work and then back home again....one location--period= not deductible.

Carmen it sounds like your husband's work location changes frequently and you MIGHT qualify for these special rules:

From Form 2106 instructions:

Commuting.
Generally, commuting is travel between your home and a work location. However, travel that meets any of the following conditions is not commuting.

** You have at least ONE REGULAR WORK LOCATION away from your home and the travel is to a temporary work location in the same trade or business, regardless of the distance. Generally, a temporary work location is one where your employment is expected to last 1 year or less. See Pub 463 for more details.

**The travel is to a temporary work location outside the metropolitan area where you live and normally work.

** Your home is your principal place of business under section 280A(c)(1)(A) (for purposes of deducting expenses for business use of your home) and the travel is to another work location in the same trade or business, regardless of whether that location is regular or temporary and regardless of distance.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will stress that they must have one REGULAR WORK LOCATION in order to qualify for that 'temporary work' exception OR you must actually work from your home and be able to deduct business use of your home. 7|2|my husband works for carpenters union.....they might be at |couponsnsamples|cpsnsamples@aol.com|19:37:47|01/26/2012|

Can we claim any credit for me being disabled? Now, I read a bit about this credit on the irs site, does this only apply if my husband has to pay for home health care for me? Or has other expenses related to my disability? I'm thinking that the credit is only available if there are expenses, like home care, yes?

If we can take some sort of credit then I need to determine if turbotax freedom has the form or not too. 10|3|Cinda...which credit are you talking about? Credit for Elderly and Disabled? the Sch R?|Abbicca|Abbicca@insightbb.com|00:40:45|01/27/2012|

Or are we talking childcare...even if you don't have income due to disability?
Or medical expenses... equipping the house?

Email me if you don't want to post personal stuff on the board.....might take me a bit to get back to you. At this time of the year I can be too tired to want to look at a computer screen at home...LOL

Can you give me a general run-down of what is considered taxable disability income? I meet the other two requirements but am not sure about this one? Specifically, which social security benefits are taxable? Thank you for taking the time! I bet you are very busy right now and I appreciate it. :) 13|5|did some reading tonight, got my answer :)|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|01:20:58|01/28/2012|
