9 0|0|high triglycerides - anybody able to lower them?|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|10:00:52|01/23/2012|

My sister-in-law got the results of her blood work Saturday and they show that her triglycerides are 232 -- guess they should be under 150?

She has a doctor's appointment in a few weeks, but she is anxious to find out right away what she can do to bring them down.

Does anybody know what causes high triglycerides? Does it have something to do with limiting carbs?

Thanks. 1|1|research online lots of info..(M)|kthy26|kthy26@yahoo.com|10:48:29|01/23/2012|

The last time I had my labs done my triglycerides were up a little and when i questioned the dr I was told it could be from starting a diet, was told that sometimes when you change something in your diet it makes them go up until your body can get use to the change...has your sister been dieting or exercising? I had them rechecked awhile after starting the diet/exercise program they had went back down

hope this helps

on how to lower triglycerides. High levels of triglycerides is typically related to excessive consumption of grains and sugars. HTH, Sharon:)

When I lived on carbs, my trigs were 768! After low carbing, they go from 150-170. To keep healthy, I need a high fat diet, moderate protein and ultra low carb.
So the more sugar, pasta, breads, etc that you eat, the higher your trigs go. 4|2|Sometimes its hereditary.. mine were 700 on a low carb diet, I have to take meds to control mine|kandywolf|kandywolf@gmail.com|15:43:06|01/23/2012|

have you seen "fathead"? it explains a lot about all these things, weight gain and loss, cholesterol, etc. 6|1|There are several different things that can cause a higher level....|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|21:54:16|01/23/2012|

Obesity....The first and the most common reason is overconsumption of fatty food items like fried, oily or sugary treats. Loosing weight lowers your number
Some meds...steroids, birth control pills, beta-blockers, estrogen, tamoxifen and diuretics can increase your number.
Alcohol ...excessive alcohol consumption can also raise the triglyceride and cholesterol count in one’s blood
Kidney disease...
Diabetes..
Genetic disorders....Although quite rare
Hypothyroidism...

I know someone who's number is in the 700s, and not overweight but she drinks alot.

They are very helpful.

Looks like the first thing she needs to do is lower her intake of sugar and starches. She actually does have a really bad sweet tooth :( 8|2|Thanks for the information. I had no idea that beta-blockers can make tricylerides so high.|lv2qpon|jcummins1@rochester.rr.com|14:39:17|01/26/2012|
