I had lap-band placed in Aug 2008, they ended up going back in twice, second time they took the port out so i had band but no way to fill it. I did lose weight but was due to being very sick, not band. Being sick threw my thyroid out of whack. Never felt well, this went on for long time, had pain at port site, even though port removed (doctors told me pain was from adhesions). Had other pain they said was esophpgeal spasms. Finally due to other "irritable bowel" symptoms, finally had endoscopy this last Oct. Found out my band was erroded. Was told by surgeon that removed it that it had probably been errored almost the entire time I had it. I am now only about 30 lbs overweight so do not qualify for any weight-loss surgery bit would not do it again no matter what I weighed, lost about three years of my life. 2|2|oh my, that sounds horrible, so sorry to hear that|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|20:56:29|01/16/2012|

I was always wary of these weight loss surgeries, just doesn't seem right to me at all. Just not natural and from your experience, it looks like I made the right choice by not getting any of these surgeries. I'm so sorry, it sounds like you went through so much. :( 3|1|I know 2 people that had this done.....|Sharon|corvettelady@lavabit.com|23:57:53|01/16/2012|

getting the lap-band procedure and they have not been the same since! Both can only eat certain foods, occasional stomach pain, have nausea and few other things that I can't think of at the moment. The best way to lose weight is the natural way no matter how long it takes! Best diet is high fat/protein, low-carb diet to lose weight. Cut out sugar, grains, processed foods. 4|1|i have the band (M)|gwens29|gwen41539@bellsouth.net|06:24:53|01/17/2012|

and lost 125 pounds in the first 2 months. I never once exercized and never had any complications or anything. I did gain back quite a bit of weight last year - stretched my pouch with those darn Big Macs!! - but have since lost another 100 pounds and I'm at my goal weight again and hopefully will stay here. I still cannot eat sweets without getting nauseated so I nibble on 1/2 a cookie when I have a serious craving. And too much fat, say from potato chips, etc. does a number on my tummy so I avoid that too. I eat ALOT of carrot and celery sticks and apples when we can afford them. And I have to take B-12 injections for the rest of my life. I have quite a long scar down my belly and just a little loose skin here and there but I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I would recommend it to anyone!!!!

Please leave me feedback if we have had a favorable trade and I will do the same for you!

I CAN eat some sweets but I know when it's one bite too many. Bread, rice, pasta - don't like me anymore which is okay. Protein, protein, protein.

Yes, vitamins every day and I have trouble remembering those so I have several people at work who keep tabs on me.

Never felt better -- feel like I gained 20 years on my life... 9|3|however -- the lapband -- scares the hell out of me!!!|whitmarg|robin@whitmannet.com|12:03:08|01/17/2012|

Wow, that's pretty drastic and to me not healthy at all. That's quite a shock to your body in such a short period of time. Glad you made out OK though. 11|1|Yes I did and I just lost this past 100 pounds in a few short months.|suzhappy|suzhappy@yahoo.com|13:14:07|01/17/2012|

The weight just seems to drop off of me without me even realizing it. I was under a Dr.s care both times and taking my vitamins don't worry. And eating tons of protein and protein shakes. I also belonged to a Gastric Bypass Support Group which was a tremedous help both before and after surgery - this was down in LA at Ft. Polk. But I would definitely recommend looking to find out if such a group exists where you are! Before we were allowed to have the surgery we had to have a psychiatric check-up, lose so much weight (I forget how much), pass a physical, have a certain BMI, be able to walk a certain distance...they were very strict down there. Same with all of you?

Please leave me feedback if we have had a favorable trade and I will do the same for you!

I also started off the process looking into the lap band. Some of the stories I heard scared the crap out of me. After ALOT of research, I finally went with the gastric bypass. BEST decision I ever made!!! Wish I had it done years ago. Good luck on whatever you decide. Cindy
