Okay, in my state (MO) we are NOT suppose to be charged tax on our coupons. RSMo 144.083 says that we pay sales tax on the amount we pay after coupons. Pretty straight forward, right? NO, evidently NOT! The Home Depot in Liberty, MO, charged tax on the the amount BEFORE coupons were taken off. It was .30 total ... not a real big deal, but it's the principle of the issue. I emailed, nicely, and told them. I got a response right away saying I would hear from someone locally soon. I did. It was a ops mgr who said that he talked with "other managers" and they said to charge tax on the total amount but he would contact the Atlanta Tax & Finance Office and get back with me. I emailed him right back, this time with a copy of RSMo 144.083 and said the "other managers" were NOT correct and that Atlanta could do whatever they wanted but in MO they could NOT charge tax. Never heard back from him. Emailed the person who originally responded. STILL never heard back. So, I contacted the MO Attorney General's Office. Then I heard back from lots of different people within Home Depot that they were looking into it and would get back with me. The Liberty, MO, store manager called and said I was correct and apologized. I never got my .60 (I went in again after the first time I shopped there) but the money wasn't the principle of the issue it was that they were doing something illegally! He said that the issue was just with the self-check registers - that's where the issue happened the first time I was charged tax. I told him I had been in since then and that I had gone to a cashier and NOT the self-check registers but had still been charged tax. He said they would look into it further. Then today I got a call from someone at the corporate office of Home Depot saying that the Atlanta tax office said I AM suppose to pay tax on the full amount. Holy Cow! Really? It's in black & white that I am not suppose to! The lady who called was really very nice, she even told me to get to feeling better (I have a bit of a cold that sounds much worse than it actually is) and she was just the messenger but I told her to just have the Atlanta tax office contact the MO AGO office. What a pain. Why are they making it so difficult? RSMo says DON'T charge tax on coupons. Why don't they just change their machines and be done with it? Also, this has been going on for nearly 2 months now. When it first happened I didn't go online and blast Home Depot and tell everyone how awful they were. Now that it's gone on this long, though, and even with the Missouri Attorney General involved they are saying they're not going to change ... well, now I'm online and telling everyone! Thanks for letting me rant about this ... Sandy 1|1|I know how you feel. :( Here in MI they always charge tax before the coupons. GRRRRR|driller|harj@frontier.com|21:15:17|12/27/2011|

It really stinks. No wonder so many are moving out of MI. TAXES, TAXES and more TAXES. Never ending all the way around.

Have you ever wondered about this?

First you pay property taxes, twice a year, then at the end of year pay more tax, etc. Is like they are spending before they even get.
The more you give the more they sit at their desks, and dream up more ways to get more.

I am sick of some many getting grant monies, and instead of using it for up grades, such as bigger water lines or sewer lines, they blow it on beautifican . Like
fancy sidewalks, more street lights, middle islands with trees, which over about 5 yrs, the trees break up the sidewalk with their overgrown roots and have
to be replaced. GRRRRRR So in a way, they are making job security for the near future, wasting funds. At least that is the way I see it. I feel for
the plow drivers in the winter months, that have to try to plow around all this new curbing, etc.

Sorry for going on & on.

Judy, in New York we have an incredible and necessary change taking place with our tax dollars.

They are changing ALL the street signs to lowercase.

According to some genius, they're supposed to be easier to read than those with BIG uppercase letters. 3|3|Too funny. :)|driller|harj@frontier.com|23:34:45|12/27/2011|

They sure come up with all kinds of ways to spend taxpayers dollars. Hey remind me never to visit there, I can hardly read the
street signs as it is..................... Heck they may as well make all the street signs lighted while they are blowing
the funds.

~Judy in MI~ is bitter cold here tonight. Snowed most of the day. Did you get any snow down there today?

If you're charged tax on coupons all year long, when you're not suppose to be, it can add up to hundreds. So, I'm going to push this through to the end!

Too funny about the street signs. Way to teach our children about capitalization, right?!
