Hayley is a 7 year old girl that attends our church with her parents and her little sister Aubrey. She was diagnosed a bit over 2 yrs ago with neuroblostoma, she went into remission last year, but this past spring/summer it returned, and once it returns, the drs say there is really no cure. This little princess has fought so hard, but there is nothing more the drs can do. It's really hit me hard and I've been so upset by it all, I try to stay positive, because I know she won't be in pain or suffer anymore, but it's still emotional for me. I'm trying to be strong, cause Cheyenne is very upset as is Will. Last night Cheyenne broke down and cried, she knows now that it's a reality that Hayley won't be here much longer, the drs said she probably won't make it past this week. Thank GOD her father came home from Iraq 11 days ago...Her dream was to see NY and the Statue of Liberty, they were suppose to go today for a 3 day trip, but the drs told them two weeks ago to bump up the trip, so they went last week, Hayley got to see her dream and she got to go to the American Girl store, she went to Good Morning America and also got to drive the NYFD harbor boat, Mayor Bloomberg said he would make sure all her wishes came true. Over the weekend Karen and I discussed our options with Hayley and what would be best for her. At this point, Hayley has not gotten any better and her body has not started producing red blood cells or platelets as was hoped for with the stem cell rescue she received last month. Her pain has gotten a lot worse in the last couple weeks and she is unable to walk for more than a few minutes without being in a lot of pain. She has also stopped eating more and more every day, some days not eating more than a few bites. We decided that it was in Hayley's best interest to stop transfusing her. It would only prolong the inevitable and cause her to be in more pain and discomfort for a longer period of time.
On friday her hemoglobin level was around 5, she normally was transfused around 7 or 8. Hayley went back to the clinic this morning for her normal visit. We spoke with the doctors and they fully supported our decision. The doctor thought that this would be the most comfortable and peaceful for Hayley. She then told us that when Hayley's hemoglobin reached around 3 that she would become extremely tired and sometimes hard to wake up. She said that after a couple days she would most likely sleep and not wake up. After our discussion with her, we found out that her hemoglobin was currently around 3. This really surprised the doctor because Hayley was still walking a little bit and being her tough self. We were told that Hayley would most likely not make it another week and that was very hard to take in. The only little bit of comfort is that she wont be suffering or in pain for much longer.

I'm at a loss for words, I pray that God bring peace, comfort and healing for all in this dear family.
My brother passed away at age 3, we had a fire... We share the same birthday so each year I think of him, we were exactly two years apart. The loss of a child is unexplainable, my Mom was never the same again. My love and prayers to this family.

One thing you can do for them is to be there when they need to talk and need someone to listen. Do they have other children? (EDITED because I just re-read this post-- I had read your FB update and not what you wrote here. I see she does). I ask that because if they do and you can spend time with their other kids then that will help all of them (at least I think so... one of the sweet memories I have after Dylan passed was one of my friends dropping by unannounced and just sitting and reading books to Sierra. It helped me more than I could explain.) Little kindnesses like that still make me tear up to think about them.
Holding your friends in my prayers. Hoping for a miracle. Or if that isn't possible then at least as many good moments as possible and peace.
I know your heart is heavy with this. You are such a kind and loving person and I know that you are a blessing to them. V.

Her little sister is Aubrey, I believe she just turned 5 or is turning 5. So I know it's hard for this little one, cause Hayley and Aubrey are very close and Aubrey has had to endure so much too, I know that cancer not only affects the patients, but it also affects their families, so I know this litle one is having a hard time understand, but she is the most loving sister and has been a real trooper too...The whole community as well as our church family have reached out to them many times and they have a great support system, I am so glad of that, because I know it's gonna be hard for them, but with family and friends to be there for them, to help with Aubrey etc, will be a blessing too...Hugs, Rebekka
P.S. I'm so glad that you had a friend that would come and read to Sierra, during that time, it's hard for parents to lose a child, but the little things mean so much too when someone reaches out to you unexpectedly...(((HUGS))))

I just wanted to ask that everyone please continue to pray for her parents Eric and Karen and her little sister Aubrey please. Hayley passed away this morning at 7:15 am, I kept getting a feeling it was gonna be today, on Christmas Day they said all she really did was sleep and not open her presents, she would wake up for a few minutes at time, then last night I kept getting these feelings that she was gonna pass this morning, it's like GOD kept sending me these feelings and I really didn't sleep at all last night, I just sat up and would pray...I want to Thank you all for all your thoughts and prayers...I'm just somber and my heart is breaking for her family today. RIP Hayley!
