My shih tzu was diagnosed today with Cushing's disease.
Does anyone have any experience with this disease?

Our vet thinks our older dog has it, we couldn't afford the tests (they are very expensive), but with all the symptoms, she's pretty sure our furbaby has it. The vet told us that the medication can make her comfortable, but there's no cure and that the average life span after being diagnosed is 2 yrs, but that was 2 1/2 yrs ago and she's still with us...She said that she would drink tons of water, and our furbaby does drink tons of water all the time, plus she pants alot too...The vet said the muscles start to deteriorate usually starting with stomach muscles, we've seen this happen in our dog, her stomach does sag, but she's old and has other health issues (ie: allergies and hip problems)...Sorry wish I had more info for you...Hugs, Rebekka

We did have all the blood tests done (and you're right: they cost about $400). And the medicine will cost about $67/month and Reba will have to take it for the rest of her life. She's 10 years old so I'm pretty upset that she has to face this now in addition to all the other health problems and surgeries she's been through in her life including a very scary back surgery that cost us $5,000 :(
We adore her, though, so we will do whatever it takes to help her.
