For over 2 mos. I've been feeling crappy, w/my head/neck feeling warm & feverish off & on & a half a sore throat. Feeling kind of plugged in my head & ears, headache including a somewhat stiff neck. When it hits, I'd feel like that ALL day, sometimes 2-3 days straight, 1 week it hung on that whole week. It did not come & go throughout the day but stayed w/me ALL day. Some chills & sweats. I've told & been seen by 2 different drs. (1 of them being an ENT) about it - 1 said menopausal hotflashes & the other said to take a decongestant in case it was sinus. I've never been prone to sinus problems. NO blood test or anything else checked to confirm or rule anything out. I'd feel overall miserable & wanting to do NOTHING.
I do have a history of tonsilitis btw.
Felt ok the last few days but today it hit again, so a little bit ago I took the flashlight & looked at my throat in the mirror. Sure enough, I have a few little white spots on my left tonsil & 1 spot on that thing that hangs down in the middle of the throat. I cried cuz I'm just so disgusted & tired of feeling like crap for SO long, nobody was willing to do anything to check what it might/might not be. I'm calling dr. 1st thing in the morning cuz if it's not strep, I KNOW it's tonsilitis & need an antibiotic. I think it's about 2 mos. overdue. :(
Please pray I FINALLY get an antibiotic.

w/tonsilitis. Used to be that it hurt so bad to swallow even water & my tonsils would be huge. That was over 30 yrs. ago when I was a kid. Didn't have it come back in all that time, til about 3 yrs. ago & I've been getting it again once a year ever since. And the weird part now is that the last 2 times I've gotten it, it hasn't really hurt to swallow down in my throat like it used to, mostly the feverish/headache/heavy head & stiff neck type feeling.
But I've known something was wrong for a long time, that is was NOT hotflashes & I didn't think it was sinus either altho it did seem similar, according to the symptoms my mom gets w/sinus/sinus infection. But I couldn't get anybody to do anything to check to see just what exactly it could be for sure.
I made a fast trip over to my mom's tonight so she could look in my throat too & then come w/me into the dr. tomorrow & vouch that she also seen the white spots & redness. I'm not leaving that clinic tomorrow w/out an antibiotic to get rid of this crap once & for all!
I don't like taking antibiotics anymore than drs. like prescribing them but I'm just so disgusted that I couldn't get either dr. to even check. I know I likely won't get to see my reg. dr. tomorrow but he's going to hear about it! It's unlike him to not be thorough, & then the ENT who should know better. :(

I wished they would've taken my tonsils out when I was a kid & been done w/it. I don't know why they didn't cuz I was sick really bad a few times w/it back then. But too late for me cuz I said they're not getting them now when they had their chance then.
I'm kind of worried this time tho cuz it's gone untreated for so long, & altho it sounds weird, it's like my heart feels warm when it hits. :(
I hope your Amy doesn't continue to have to fight w/it.

Got zithromax so hoping it knocks whatever out of my system. The dr. I seen today ordered a strep test & a blood test. No strep, no mono, & he leaned toward a virus & not tonsilitis despite the white spots. He wasn't going to give me an antibiotic but I practically demanded it, say at the very least, it couldn't hurt to try it.
If this doesn't do it, then maybe they'll have to check my white cell count. :(

9|1|Tami, there is a virus that mimics Strep throat. My oldest DD gets strep throat. My DS doesn't. One day he said he had a sore throat and I looked and it looked just like his sister's throat when she gets strep. I took him to the doctor's that day and they tested for strep. Right now, he has white spots in his throat and he is off to the doctor in the morning. Although he will be tested for strep,I am sure it is another virus.
My DD just had strep last month. Germs are definitely floating around.

strep. After so many times, when she was younger paying for the negative strep test and no insurance, I once happened upon a Doctor who got mad at me when I said no strep test. I said no problem, it's just she doesn't get strep and I pay extra $ I don't have for nothing. How about we do the test and if she has strep, I pay for the test and no strep, I don't pay. I ticked him off even more but he agreed. I do believe that is the day that young Dr. learned that everything is not always by the book. Amy was a little annoyed though, cuz she always hated that test!

42 year old son currently being treated for thrush mouth...kids get it a lot when they're little, but ya don't hear much about grown-ups getting it....white spots also visible...he says it felt like the top layer of skin on the tongue was peeled... OW! Antibiotics helping now..says they taste nasty, and ya gotta swirl it around in your mouth. Gosh, I remember going through that wil the kids when they were little!

Being that sick for that long sounds like a sinus infection to me. I got them once a year for quite a few years - knock on wood now. But, was sick all over, with a low-grade fever and all of the symptoms that you described. Antibiotics is the only thing that would knock it out. DO NOT quit taking them even if you are feeling fine - got to kill it all out.

It may have started out as tonsillitis but I tested positive for thrush last week. :( It may very well have been thrush all along or a combo of tonsillitis & thrush, They're not sure. Got Nystatin to take for 10 days & I hope it knocks it out but I got 2 re-fills if not. Thing is, I goofed on the dosage the 1st couple days & was taking a tbs. (tablespoon) instead of the prescribed tsp. (teaspoon) 4 times a day. :-O Don't know what I was thinking but realized my mistake by the 3rd day so have been taking the required tsp. 4 X/day ever since altho I had to skimp a little bit on each one for a few days so I didn't short myself before the end of the 10 days. ENT said it'll probably take a couple rounds of the Nystatin to completely knock the thrush out. Especially if it's what I've been dealing w/all this time. Kind of disgusted about that! :(

girls they were getting strepped at least twice
a month. They were on antibiotic for 10 days and
the next week they were coming down with it again.
Come to find out my oldest daughter was what they
called (a carrier) She kept giving it to the younger
ones. After getting it 5 times both younger ones had
to go to the hospital to have tonsils and adnoise
removed. After that they were all fine. (the oldest
one stills has hers) but no strep.

Not the powder, only fresh. I make a tea with an one inch chunk. Bring to a boil in 2-3 cups water, boil and simmer for a few minutes. Sweetren to taste or add a tea bag, I usually do not bother with the sweetner, drink hot. Refrigerate left overs. This will help with your headche and inflammations. Even if it does not work, it will not harm. A small amount of vitamin E , SMALL AMOUNT PLEASE too much is bad for you, that may help to help your tonsils. Eat more fruits and vegetables, less processed foods. Most particularly less processed foods. In fact, avoid, fried foods, junk food, candy, and fast foods, at least til you are better. I believe in balance.
