I actually miscounted and forgot that since i didn't hear from them for nearly 2 weeks, I gave some pairs away to my Grandson's mitten tree, I had only 27 pairs and since 72 were needed, another county division was dropping off the balance so that each child could have a pair of mittens in their backpack, she told me that they had received donations. I went in with my box of mittens and knowing from them that the ages of the children were from K-4th grade, the sizes were mostly the same, maybe a tad big for the littles but the colors were nice, I made striped ones too from the leftovers of the solid colors. Next time, I may be a little more generic in the colors, maybe no hot pink, I sure wouldn't want a little boy to get that. Anyway, I said to her if she ended up with a problem and needed a few more pairs to call me and I meant it.
She went back downstairs with me because the county delivery had come. I told her i saw a box that said 50 hats on it but didn't look because I didn't want to be nosy. She saw the obvious food boxes and just this 1 box marked 50 hats. She started to open and I wanted to see what they had made. We both stared into that box for a long time, and then she brought 1 of the handmades up and said "How cute". I answered "adorable". The handmade ones were all made with variegated black and white or brown and white yarn. The ones not handmade were clearly from the dollar store and labeled womens and mens. Everything was in an adult size for kids ages what-5 to 9?
Maybe 15 minutes after I got home, she called me and said she had an idea. She would send the school that had 39 kids the hats and if I could make 5 more pairs of mittens by next tues then she could do the mittens for the other school. We have 2- K-4 schools in our town. I said sure and I am making them all in some sort of blue, just in case, LOL.
I guess I was feeling like I did at the Dollar store right after Thanksgiving. They ask you if you want to buy a toy for $1 to donate. They sell what they want to, get the price they want and just let it be a pick up zone. The toys they had out were pure crap. I would not expect anyone to be happy over crap. I don't know, maybe I am in a mood. I actually just made them because I couldn't stop and I needed to keep myself busy, not because I am generous or even nice, LOL! thanks for the vent! 1|1|I dont know if kids will even know things are handmade versus store bought....but I'm sure your mittens would blow those dollar store hats out of the water, C :) I made a couple dozen hats for a charity (I was hooked up with them by Lorey12 here), and had the most fun making them, getting all creative, using up some of my stash....some of my best work was in some of those donated hats! LOL :) I also just donated my second box of blankets, hats, booties, stuffed toys to a charity that Carol Lintao is involved with....also tons of fun doing those. I figure I had fun doing it, and hopefully my stuff will make a little bit of a difference in some child's life, if even for a moment they know people out there care about them :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|19:21:49|12/13/2011|

2|2|Actually, it was just that they were so darned ugly and big, like what the heck? What was the point in donating. I felt disappointed in what was in that box. You are a great|Mackiesmudder|Mackiesmudder@aol.com|19:30:18|12/13/2011|
