I've never really had mine treated except for wearing a guard on my teeth at night, so I don't know what kind of info I can give. Come to think of it, I'm not sure what treatments are even available beyond wearing a guard. The doctor said mine was probably caused by grinding my teeth in my sleep.

Wearing the guard on my teeth really helped. Mine seems to come and go over the years....probably comes back more when I'm stressed and clenching my jaw without even realizing it. It hasn't been really bad for me the last few years. Eating hard candy tends to make it flare up too.

I have a friend with really, really bad TMJ and after not seeing much relief from your standard treatments (mouth guard etc) her doc told her to try a chiropractor. Helped her a ton. She also found that stress relief such as doing a yoga video every day, or whatever helps you relax like meditating or getting a massage, goes far in helping TMJ.
