Wow, what a vicious lie and it reminds me of Reagan's "welfare queen" fictional story that many today still believe is true:

As GOP contender Newt Gingrich rides an unexpected surge in the polls, he’s drawing a lot of criticism for his comments deriding poor children for not working and suggesting they should take up janitorial positions at their own schools.
Attacking poor Americans who need government aid is a favorite pastime for Gingrich — in nearly every speech he attacks President Obama for being a “food stamp president.” He took his routine even further this week when he claimed that food stamp recipients use their government aid to take trips to Hawaii:
So more Americans now get food stamps therefore and we now give it away as cash,” Gingrich said of President Obama. “You don’t get food stamps. You get a credit card and the credit card can be used for anything. We’ve had people take their food stamp money and use it to go to Hawaii.”

I've seen with my own eyes people trading their foodstamps for video games, smokes, drugs, and other vices......
I've reported, with NOTHING done....
It's both immoral and disgusting. and the reason why so many have the negative feelings they do about public assistance and part of the reason the system is going to collapse.
I hold fast to my belief that there are some who need a hand up and should definately get it......however, there is a teeny part of me that doesn't care what happens to the public assistance program anymore because too many are allowed to abuse it and get by with it while too many who HONESTLY need it can't get a cent.
The whole system needs to be be redesigned.....

I rarely see a story about a family who doesn't abuse the system, about how much it helps feed their family. These stories told about the small amount of abusers are meant to foster hate against the poor and are very often just lies by the media.

I've seen and experienced a GREAT deal having been a single teen mother. I've worked three part time jobs while putting myself through college at night living in low income housing and watching those around me cheat the system....moving in live in boyfriends and not reporting income, driving gorgeous cars with name brands on while I struggled the honest way......
Fifteen years later, MANY of my old "neighbors" are STILL milking the system so they can do what the "feel" like doing instead of being an adult and providing for themselves and the choices they make.
I'm saddened that a system that gave me a helping hand when I needed it most is so abused and may not be there for another hardworking, honest person and that those who continually abuse the system are allowed to.

So you know how much it helps and were truly grateful, I know as well and I'm so glad these programs exist for the poor. To make sure that those who need it get the help that is desperately needed, we need to make sure the truth is told about the recipients and not allow sensationalism and emotionalism to cloud the truth.
A majority of those on food stamps are working and a lot are children who can't work. Just because a fraction of those on aid abuse the system doesn't mean the program is bad and shouldn't stop our efforts to help those in need.

This older man was on food stamps, but bought a lotto ticket, won, and NOW, he beat the system. There was a flaw, which now they are
changing here. He is still able to draw his food stamps, and has over 2 million dollars, new house, new car, etc. There was a huge
write up and the interview with the DHS, they said there was nothing they could do.. They had nver dremed this would happen, but
said he feel under some law, and nothing they can do..... WHAT?
Guess I don`t get it. My understanding is, when I was getting the food stamps, I had to not only go in twice a year, but had
to show all my assists, living expenses, etc. So you would think he would not quailfy, when he went back to his interviews.
I was one case that they could not figure out how to do the paperwork, only because I am part owner of a company. So they cut me
off., after the first year of getting them. I am still struggling, but the way I feel, I WILL NEVER ask the government for anything
ever again. My work is down to very low income, and has been for a long time. They just don`t care, and used the ownership in business
as an excuse not to help. So another words, if you own anything you are pretty much screwed as far as any help from any government
program here in MI... In my case, it wasn`t because I did not have a job, I have one, just no work available for my services. So you
sit and wait and hope the phone rings to get one.
Plus, I know of one friend, which could not work due to health issues, they gave her the food stamps, then two years later, she
got a letter stating she had to pay all what they gave her back. She can`t. :( So she works cleaning horse stalls and other odd jobs
just to survive, while still in alot of pain, due to her health. I don`t know how she does it.
Too many loopholes in this system. And I agree, the ones who truely need do not get the help. I am fine because I will not let anything
get me down. I am not proud about having to get the help for that one year, but it sure helped and I did greatly appreciate it.

Even if that man still qualified, he should have refused the help so that others could have it.
My thoughts on getting help when you need it: We are all so soaked with taxes and I see no shame at all in getting some of them back via assistance programs. Corporate welfare is far more damaging to our national debt but you rarely hear about that in the news. GE paid zero taxes last year, ZERO and they made billions.
What is so sad to me is that the facts about who is really getting the most welfare (banks, corporations) are hidden from the public but yet they constantly report about truly poor people getting just a few hundred dollars a month. As if that is the problem with our national debt. It is just terrible, demonizing the poor, sick and elderly and making them feel bad about getting a meager amount of help. It is simply class warfare, getting the rich to hate the poor and the poor to hate the rich, all the while the insanely rich sit back and laugh at us all.
Years ago, my son and I lived on $300 dollars a month cash assistance. I dropped out of college and quit working to stay home with him as I felt this was the best thing to do. For years, I endured the stigma and dirty looks but it didn't matter to me, I knew that being home with my son was what God wanted for me to do. He is 24 now and thanks me for staying home and quitting college and work. He knows I could have had nicer cars and an easier life but he knows he was more important to me than all that.
I can't believe I ever felt bad for getting $300 a month! The Fed gave the banks 7.7 TRILLION in hidden bailouts, as recently came to light by bloomberg. The news media and uninformed citizens made me feel bad for a few hundred a month?? Oh boy! At least I didn't get trillions at the expense of taxpayers, just wow.

they figure out a way to purchase, smokes, illegal drugs, and alchohol, but can not figure out a way to pay their bills. People continue to make bad choices, then expect others to bail them out. A hand up in an unexpected hard time is different then constantly making choices that put you in a bad position.
We went without all the new things when our kid were little, to keep them fed. No VCR, no cable tv. I gardened and made their clothes, while friends on welfare were buying every new gadget. This is not what I am seeing in the media, this is what I am seeing in real life and it is getting worse all the time.
Allowing people to abuse the system, does not help them in the long run, it hurts them and teaches them a way of life.

about 7 yrs ago my parents [senior citizens] couldn't afford to buy food. I applied for food stamps and they were denied saying they made $25.00 over. I was furious!! I see all the time people abuse the system buying items they don't need. I see them getting fillet migon, lobster, etc. Would you buy the cheaper items so you can get more to go around? Or the expensive items. I don't think you should be able to buy these items. I'm NOT JEALOUS!!! But this is unfair!
After seeing what my parents went through, it makes me mad and nothing can be done. In PA. the peolple get a debit card for food stamps.
I had to buy the food for my parents plus for my family. But it didn't bother me to do this for them. They were always there for me.
I'm just venting! NOT PICKING ON ANYONE!!!! This is no one in concern!!!

to read this because it ruins it for people. Like me that really needs to be on food stamps but I can't get them now because of the living situation I am in. I have to go to food pantries to get food but they are not enough for a month. I can't work because I have massive blood clots in my body and I was denied for SSI twice already. I believe I read that something like 45 million people are currently receiving food stamps and that one in every 4 or 5 children receive food stamps. With today's economy,
this program is needed. It is not just for who we normally think either. The new poor have grown substantially in the past few years.
The saying there but the grace of god go I is really applicable these days.
Like many families, our family is struggling as well. Our income has been cut by 75%. We are making it, but one catastrophe could possibly put us under.
I believe opponents of Food Stamps love when they are able to cite abuses of Food Stamps because it gets everyone all riled up.
Instead of getting riled up, see if there is a friend, family member or even a stranger who could use a random act of kindness.

25|1|I saw this alot when I worked at Walmart, people would abuse the food stamps and buy junk, instead of trying to look for good deals and make the most of their foodstamps.. It is the Lord's doing, for His purposes and we are all the very same. Nobody is defined by the amount of pieces of paper in their pockets, whether much or little. At the end of the day, we are all poor and naked before the Lord and the only riches that any of us can have are those in Christ. All else will fly away and be gone.

start growing your own food and rely less on big government! At the turn of the 20th century, about 80% of our country were farmers!!! It's a lot of work but it's much cheaper plus you can grow organic without having to use chemicals, pesticides, etc. I've also been hearing for a while now that there's going to be a food shortage.
