Just to keep things in perspective and to know how short life is, I read the obits from time to time.

I read the obits online at our local paper's site and it is humbling and reminds me of what really matters in life.
I don't mind getting old, just wish I had the energy I used to have and the good health.

I used to say that if I didn't see my name in there, I was doing good. But I don't say that anymore as I had a dream one night that I was reading my own obituary. That's kind of freaky. :-O

Sometimes I only find out about friends dying from reading them. I found out about friends from other churches that have passed away by reading obits, so I made sure to attend visitation or funeral.
