I would def read through the whole online instruction book. There are tons of free apps and don't forget that every friday is "free friday".. The books aren't always wonderful, but hey free is free! My dd12 has one and she rents books from the library for free. Sometimes they aren't available but eventually you'll get them...
Also if you know anybody else who has a nook, some of the books that they've already bought can be "loaned" to you for 14 days. My girlfriend at work and I share books, no point in buying a book someone else already has :)

She loves it and has found several free novella's that go with series that she is reading. It does do games, apps, and even internet. She gets on facebook a lot with it. Like mentioned above, dont forget to check out all the free stuff!! Enjoy. :)

even if you did not get it from Barnes and Noble they will help you get it set up
Do not know what kind you got but when I got mine the store gave me instructions on
how to set it up and it is pretty easy once you get going.
