I've had problems a couple of times over the years with my sciatica. It looks like I'm having a problem again.

I went to a chiropractor the last two times and I guess it helped a little, but not really that much. I'm wondering if this is just one of those problems that will pretty much "go away by itself" over time. In other words, is it worth going to a chiropractor or would it have gotten better on its own.

I don't have insurance so I would have to pay out of pocket if I do go and money is tight right now so I hate to spend it if I can just "wait it out" for a week or two.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. 1|1|I had problems when I was moving here 5 years ago The DR in NJ just put me on pain meds and |teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|08:21:48|10/28/2011|

Sciatica refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It is caused by injury to or pressure on the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is a symptom of another medical problem, not a medical condition on its own.

This was my first problem 10 years ago, that escalated into much bigger issues for me. Started with a Neurologist since it is a Nerve problem and now I am under Pain Management for this and my other list of back/neck constant 24/7 major pain issues. Just recently completed 4 rounds of the Facet Joint Pain Injections for my lower back issues and my next round is pain injections into my neck discs.

For me the Sciatica nerve has pretty much destroyed my right leg and now my left leg is going the same route. I expect I will soon be wheel chair bound.

If the pain continues, I suggest you go see a Neurologist and have them perform a EMG Test. An electromyogram (EMG) is a test that is used to record the electrical activity of muscles.

Have any questions or finding assistance since you mentioned you have no insurance, Please send me an email and I will try to help you find the assistance you will need.

they've been very helpful. The pain is actually a little better today so I'm praying that it will go away soon on its own. If not, I will see my doctor. 6|3|See a Physical Therapist|kaq214|qmsq8865@aol.com|15:22:30|10/28/2011|

I aagree with Newman. Sciatica is a symptom of something much bigger. It is when something in pressing on the Sciatic Nerve in you leg. Many things can cause this. Cold or Hot therapy can work to help decrease the pain, it just matters what you feel better with. A physical therapist can help with trying to release what is pressing on the nerve through manual therapy, positioning, stretching and exercise. About 50% of the time relief can be achieved. Hope this helps! Since you have no insurance check with your local hospitals and see if they have any assistance programs. You will be amazed on how much you can actually make a year and still get assistance. Most hospitals have and outpatient PT department. Also if you call around some office do have a private pay rate as well. 7|4|Search for some exercises online...|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|19:18:28|10/28/2011|

I have this and I feel your pain.

You could try some strengthening exercises and chiro adjustments may help if it is something like your hip popping in/out of joint. I had PT years and years ago and a lot of what they did was stretching and strengthening of muscles in my back. If you're out of shape, it can affect a lot of your other body parts in ways you would never connect. Also, they had me ride a bike. A lot. I hated riding that thing...
