She had such a wonderful birthday on Friday, my baby girl is growing up and I love her so much. Today she was suppose to get her bottom braces, but that didn't happen, I'm gonna copy and paste my fb post, so you can all read what happened today. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers. Hope everyone is having a great day. It's almost 5:30 here on the east coast, we are getting ready for dinner. Fried chicken, baked potatoes and veggies :) Poor Cheyenne can only have really soft foods today, she is having spaghetti o's and yogurt. She had a milkshake earlier today. She was suppose to get her bottom braces on today, but it didn't happen, she had to have them put a "high rack" in her mouth to spread her palate, cause it's too small, and after they got it in (goes on the roof of her mouth) she was panicking, cause it makes you feel like you can't swallow, it really scared her. So she has to give it a few days to get use to, and she has to get use to swallowing with it, it's hard to swallow I guess with this thing, makes you feel like you can't swallow and you're gonna choke, but her palate is so small, they need to use this thing to expand her palate to make it wider, she should be use to it in a few days, if not, they will have to take it out and possible do surgery and that they really don't wanna do, if all goes well, she will wear it 4-6 months, plus from now until her next appt, we have a tool we have to use to turn it, so that will give her pain when we are turning it, poor thing is going through so much, she goes back in 3 weeks for her bottom braces. Please say a prayer for her that this all goes well. I swear it's something different every day here with medical things and it stresses me out, but I try and stay strong and just keep the faith and know things will work out :) Have a good evening everyone :)

I had similar but back when I had braces but the adjustment came only when you went back to the office and they tweeked it with the pliers, etc. and it was more like years and not months for it to do what it had to do. Things have come a long way from my days and in the end should be quicker and easier.
I know it's an odd feeling to have something up in the roof of your mouth but she should adjust to the strangeness. And hope you become the tool expert! I've heard that's a challenge in its self.
Tell her to try to not think about it and maybe work on drinking a little more in like small sips than she does normally to get used to the strange swallowing effect.
Hope it's all better soon. I'll be thinking about her.

that does not sound like fun, did she have to have any teeth pulled.
My daughter has to get four pulled before her braces, we might wait till next year, I wanted to get it done in the spring but it did not work out. We have been having a break in our insurance each year, becuase of low work, so I am trying to figure out the best timing to get the most paid for.

She had oral surgery just over a month ago, they pulled 8 teeth, she had to have two on the top near the front, and 2 on the bottom cause she has too many teeth, plus they pulled all 4 wisdom teeth, it was so hard for her the first few weeks afterwards...Hugs, Rebekka

I think the worst part to her was no gum or sticky foods ;) The soreness should wear off soon. If it comes off, they have better glue to use. They had to stick rubber rings between her teeth to make room for the metal parts of the appliance that hug the teeth... that was a bit sore for her too. But give it a few days and she probably won't notice it as much. I have braces now (got them not too long ago and here I am in my FORTIES!!). That thing in the roof of my mouth was HORRID ... she's right it does feel like you're choking on it! By about day two, though, that feeling was gone. It's still a pain having it up there and I still sound like I have speech issues when I try to say certain words but that thing is only temporary ... it doesn't stay in as long as the braces stay on! And tell her what pretty straight teeth she will have when it's all over
