10 0|0|Having my gullblader taken out, have a few questions if you have had the same surgery|shelly0418|michelle0418@centurytel.net|00:47:05|09/30/2011|

Cant sleep so I am here looking for advice from all you smart ladies..

My surgery was scheduled in Sept but had to be cancelled. I have an
infection in my system. I cant have surgery until the infection is
gone. I have to go to the doc next week and be retested. I should
be having surgery in Oct.

My questions.....

Does your body heal fast after surgery?
Can you still eat the same food you did before?
Did you have any problems after surgery?

Anything special I need to know?

I asked question to the doc, did online
reading about it, but I like advice from someone I know that has had it done.

I do home daycare I will probably have surgery on Friday and be
back working on Monday. I cant afford to take time off. My son
will be home to help me with the children. Which will help. But
was told I cant lift for a few days, that will be hard.

Thanks for your help

I had this done when my two oldest kids were younger and I came home the same day to take care of them alone. My husband drove over the road at the time. So of course he was gone. I went in that morning for the surgery and by the afternoon my mom took me home and dropped me off with the kids. As long as they can do it laproscopically you should be fine. I healed pretty quickly and still eat rather normally.

i cannot eat and then go anywhere, it has gotten some better....i know alot of people have the same problem.

but i gotta say..its better than the pain i went thru with the gall bladder

i was kept over night cause i started running a fever...but other than that i didnt have many problems..my problems came from the air/gas....whatever they called it......

it settled in my shoulder blade area and hurt like the devil for a couple days 3|1|my surgery went fine (M)|mindylou86|mindylou86@gmail.com|11:15:08|09/30/2011|

I had my laparoscopically, and it went fine.

To answer your questions:
Does your body heal fast after surgery? Yes. I was pretty much 'back to normal' within two weeks.
Can you still eat the same food you did before? Yes. It would be good to kind of watch greasy foods (which is good for you anyway). You may have to go #2 a little more often and it may be looser.
Did you have any problems after surgery? I did have some pain in my shoulder also. They fill your belly up with air so they can expand it and see around to do the surgery. After the surgery, they get MOST of it out. For me, that is what caused my shoulder pain. (The air migrated up)

Anything special I need to know? I had to sleep in a recliner for a couple of nights...it was hard for me/uncomfortable to lay down. My aunt had to do the same thing after her surgery.

I would strongly suggest having another adult help you (if possible) at your home daycare for the first week after your surgery. I really don't think you should lift at all. I totally understand about needing the money, but if you do to much to soon, you could hurt yourself and be laid up longer, or get a hernia and need additional surgery with additional recovery time.

Take care, Michelle. I hope it all goes good for you!

I really had no problems at all. one good week of recovery..and of course,
no heavy lifting etc. But i'm hoping and praying all will go well for you too..
I'm sure it will. all surgeries are scary...but you'll do just fine!! 5|3|surgery|morninglory42|morninglory42@hotmail.com|10:01:16|10/02/2011|

I had mine done 6 or 7 years ago.Tried the lapo way but was too big so had to do the old way so took longer to heal but sure was worth it.It hurt so bad before hand.DO NOT lift anything very heavy, as you can get a hernia.Believe me,I know.I lifted a 5 gallon container of kerosene to fill our heater and the result was a hernia. My doctor said as long as I wasn't having any pain I would be fine.Still have it,doesn't bother me 6|1|what I am worried about...|shelly0418|michelle0418@centurytel.net|11:58:44|10/02/2011|

Is them having to make a big cut. That the 3 little cut way will not work. They said if they
have to open me up basically it could mean 5 days in the hospital. I can't afford to be off
work because I have to lay in a hospital bed for a few days.

Thanks for all the advice. You ladies make it not sound as bad as I think it is going to be.

I think I am going to have it forever lol

Last time I went to the doc was Oct 20th. They
said I still have the infection. No surgery yet.

They are sending me to another doc. They deals
with infection control. They finally called me
today. I have an appt for 12/2.

The infection in my system must not be to bad. They
are not in any rush to see me.

I just hope my gullblader doesn't gets really bad
by then.

I just cant beleive the doc offices are so slow.

eat kind of a bland diet so you don't get it 'stirred up' lol

Stay away from really fatty stuff, really sweet stuff, and really rich stuff. Maybe eat smaller meals too.

Better safe than sorry.

Before I had mine out, I ate a chocolate sundae and it was very, very painful.

Does your body heal fast after surgery? yes, but had staples in for 2 weeks and they hurt like a bugger when i bended or lifted
Can you still eat the same food you did before? Take it easy on greasy foods or you will be in the bathroom more than u want lol.. for the first 2 weeks I lived on cereal and high protein bars til my body got used to being without a gall bladder and appendix
Did you have any problems after surgery? Nope just couldnt lift or bend well for 2 weeks until the staples came out.. i did a load (small load) of laundry when i came home from the hospital lol.. my mom was going to stay with me, but i didnt need her, so i sent her home, but i would also advise you to have someone there at the daycare to help because I wasnt able to go back to work for 2 weeks until the staples came out.. HTH if you have any questions, plesae feel free to email me
