The walk in clinic misdiagnosed... apparently it's a common misdiagnosis for this! Apparently he has a swelling of the growth plate in his foot. Apparently his foot is growing faster than his achilles tendon... so he has to do stretching exercises and is in a cast for 3 weeks, out of PE for 4 weeks, then we'll see how his heel looks. The stretching excercises are for the good foot, so he doesn't get the same thing!

This is good, because if it was a break of his heel it would have been bad, possibly requiring surgery and a lot of rehab!

So we finally had something go in our favor for a change!

I don't know how old your son is but when my son was a pre/early teen (I think he was around 11-13), we at 1st thought he might have torn or badly bruised one of his achilles tendons as it was causing him so much pain for quite awhile. Scans showed no tearing or swelling to indicate bruising but orthapedic determined it was likely just growing pains which is common in alot of kids around that age. Some kids simply go thru faster growth spurts than others so experience more discomfort. And for some reason, it's more noticeable & painful in the legs & abdomen than in the arms, back & neck areas. Maybe cuz kids use the leg & stomach muscles more? I don't know. (shrug)
Hopefully the exercises w/the other foot & the rest period w/his painful foot will help so he'll be back up & running soon. :)

Smile... it makes people wonder what you're up to!

It happens between the ages of 8 and 14. There are a few places in the body where they grown and it can hurt. The foot, the thigh, etc.
