Arrived in my inbox tonight and it looks legit. It did address me by my full name, I just didn't post it.

Please provide your tax ID number
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We're asking for your tax ID number due to new IRS rules. Your tax ID
number is one of these:
- Your Social Security number
- Your Individual Tax Identification Number
- Your Employer Identification Number

We'll use your tax ID number to send tax Form 1099-K to you and the IRS
when the payments you receive exceed both of these milestones in a calendar
year:
- $20,000 in gross payment volume for goods and services
- 200 payments

We want to help you continue to sell with PayPal and to avoid any
interruption to your account. It's easy — here's how:
1. Log in to your PayPal account.
2. A message will appear asking you to update your information.
3. Click Provide Now.

If you have multiple PayPal accounts, repeat these steps for each account.

We appreciate your help in complying with these IRS rules. For more
information, please see our FAQs on the IRS reporting requirements:
www.paypal.com/irs

Sincerely,
PayPal

Hi Deedra,
We're trying out a new feature to reduce the amount of email you receive from Facebook. Starting today, we are turning off most individual email notifications and instead, we'll send you a summary only if there are popular stories you may have missed.
You can turn individual emails back on and restore all your original settings at any time.
Thanks,
The Facebook Team

you could log into paypal and there would be a important notice for you to click on like they usually do. I would never click on a paypal link in a email to do anything! Always go directly to the site through your top bar and get in that way.

Laurie 4|2|Well, I just logged in to Paypal and the message was there!|Gammiesue|snschapin@yahoo.com|21:00:00|09/13/2011|

So I guess it's legit. The message was in a small yellow text box at the top of the My Account Overview page.
Just curious if everyone is getting this message now? Is it a new?

I know that paypal does have a rule that when you receive 200 or more payments to pp, they are required to report it to the IRS. Check your recored, it is per calendar year, and if it totals 200+ then it is probably legit. 6|2|I thought this was 200 payments AND over $20,000 earned|jdlaurie|savethosepennies@aol.com|18:35:52|09/16/2011|

not just 200 payments. I thought you had to meet both requirements.

Would love to know for sure.

"You acknowledge that PayPal will report to the Internal Revenue Service the total amount of payments for goods and services you receive each calendar year into all the Accounts you own if you receive into these Accounts (i) more than $20,000 in payments for goods or services, and (ii) receive more than 200 payments for goods or services, in the same calendar year." 8|2|Laurie....I think you are correct...more inside|Gammiesue|snschapin@yahoo.com|21:29:56|09/16/2011|

I reread my email I received from Paypal (it's in my original post) and this is what they stated... the operative words are "EXCEED BOTH"

We'll use your tax ID number to send tax Form 1099-K to you and the IRS
when the payments you receive exceed both of these milestones in a calendar
year:
- $20,000 in gross payment volume for goods and services
- 200 payments

I love my computer because my friends live in it. 9|3|????? so it is both then, not just one|kdrink|kdrink34@yahoo.com|00:08:27|09/17/2011|
