I would like to ask my fellow traders to please say a prayer for my nephew, a young man who is having serious mental health issues. He is 25 years old and has always been a great kid. We are all saddened that he doesn't seem to have much of a grasp on reality anymore. I personally think he is bi-polar but we won't really know until he is evaluated by a psychiatrist. Huge thanks to anyone willing to help us in this way. I really believe in the power of prayer and would not ask if this weren't very important to me and my family.

for our kind thoughts and prayers. This has really hit us all hard since he never had any problems before that anyone knew about. He was living in another state and his roommate called the family to say that he was acting strangely so my neice (his sister) went to bring him home. He barely sleeps and paces constantly and then, at other times, he sleeps for long periods. We take turns staying with him since none of us knows what he might do because he sees things and says he hears voices. He doesn't have any drug-abuse history so we really don't know what to think.
We took him to a local hospital last week and they prescribed a drug called Invega but it makes him really spaced-out and has him slurring his words. We got him an appointment to see a psychiatrist but can't get in until the middle of September. Right now, we're just trying to keep him calm. It kills me not to be able to get through to him, even though he does know who we all are. I never dreamed how helpless something like this makes the family feel.
Again, thanks for all your prayes. I deeply appreciate them all.

my daughter has mental issues too. Remember Mental illness is no different than physical illness.

I've been through this, so I understand the helplessness. The pacing, sleeplessness, hearing voices are all symptoms of psychosis. Invegna is an anti-psychotic medication. It takes time before the medication starts to work and you see an improvement. They may also have to try more than one medication to correct the imbalance. It will also take time to get a correct diagnosis. Bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia can have the same symptoms.
Some other things I've learned:
If he becomes a threat to himself or others, get him to the ER.
Persuade him to authorize release of medical information to at least one family member. Mental health providers will gladly take the information you want to give them, but they cannot talk to you about the patient without the release form. Do not rely on any information your nephew may give you - the condition and medications really disrupt the thought process.
A psychiatrist for medication management is a must. Buy a pill box to help keep track of the medication.
It takes time to find the right combination of medications that work best.
