We even got a small feeder band go through about 8 am today in Tampa Bay Area FL. When Irene was going up the Atlantic, the Tampa area and eastward had some heavy rains.
I was up most of the night anyway so I watched the devistation but thank God it wasn't worse. These people will need lots of help and prayers to get back on their feet.
Back in 1920 and 1921 large hurricanes hit here and both separated the land. We have an Island off the Gulf Coast, they call it honeymoon island and its pretty much a bird sanctuary, the other made an intercoastal waterway up the pinnesula. Back they they weren't named, catorigzed and no one knew they were coming. This technology today is getting better and better for keeping us informed.
It was strange watching all this and it was happening to someone else rather than FL. Makes you thankful for what you have. They keep telling us we will get another major storm, its just a matter of time and we have about a million people here and one land route out, the rest are bridges and they shut them down early.
