7 0|0|Has anyone increased vitamin D to help with weight loss?|sunriver|sunriver@gmail.com|21:02:43|08/18/2011|

My mother in laws doctor lost a significant amount of weight and she quizzed him on how he did it. She said he increased his vitamin D (1000 mg a day) and between eating better and exercise the D helped boost the loss. I did some searching and it seems to be somewhat medically proven (although I also read that women should increase calcium at the same time.) There were some studies that showed that women who did that were able to maintain weight loss and or lose weight successfully (it was over a 3 year period too, which is hopeful to me.)

I am so sick of struggling with weight. I'm a yo yo dieter, have changed my eating habits without much success, walk, etc. My dads recent passing has got me thinking hard about how much I need to watch my weight. He was obese, a smoker (I have belly fat but never smoked) and he dropped dead of a heart attack at 78. I want to see 100. My mom is less than 5 feet tall and weighs about 85 lbs soaking wet. Now why I couldn't have inherited her metabolism is beyond me. I am also sensitive to the fact that my own daughters are likely to wind up overweight and struggle with these same issues.

So anyway has anyone else used D and has it worked for you? My mom was taking D-1000 until I took them away from her (she will get a lower dose and still take D, but she did not need so much considering she struggles to keep weight on).

TIA. 1|1|I have heard the same thing.....|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|21:07:43|08/18/2011|

Most people are lacking iodine because it isn't used in the bread flour like it used to be. There is actually bromine in most flour, which is a heavy metal and toxic. Our family takes Iodoral, you can also get potassium iodide as well. I had my thyroid removed so I take synthroid and two iodoral 12.5mg a day. I've noticed more energy, easier to lose weight and it helps me focus better.
I take Vit D as well, 3000 iu a day, not for weight loss though, I take it to help prevent colds and flu. I even heard a doctor once say that D may help with cancer, who knows but it is a must-have for me.
Also, low carb is the only diet that ever worked for me. I've battled my weight since I was a child and on ultra low carb (less than 20 carbs a day), I lost 140 pds. I lost the most when I kept my fat intake very high and to do this I used extra virgin coconut oil, 3 tablespoons a day. It also increases metabolism. Don't take the coconut oil too late at night because it may keep you up. 5|1|Some studies showing D..can help with autoimmune disorders.|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|10:07:15|08/19/2011|

6|1|Since my gastric bypass I go thru periods of very low Vit D|whitmarg|robin@whitmannet.com|15:06:29|08/19/2011|

So, they up me to 50,000 units 1x a week for 12 weeks... usually twice a year, so essentially, half the year I pump this into my system.

I do not see any weight loss benefits, but when my vit D is low, I get a weird sensation in my jaw -- almost numb, but not really. Almost quivery.

As for hair growth -- I've never seen any benefit there either. I have thin, baby fine hair - always have, always will. Thank God for hairspray. But, right after my bypass, I lost a lot of hair - many people do. What helps that growth is protein. Lots of protein. 7|1|Opposite with me, low Vit D levels took away my appetite|lv2qpon|jcummins1@rochester.rr.com|15:45:16|08/19/2011|
