I need an intervention.....I have boxes and totes of yarn....I just placed an online order at Joann Fabrics for about a dozen more....and then I went to the dollar store and got about 20 skeins of novelty yarns.

Admitting I have a problem is half the battle won...right? :S

I used to stock up on craft supplies.... there was some sort of a high involved as well as the delusion that I was going to make nifty, attractive, great stuff....
1. I bought the stuff
2. I left it pile up
3. I beat myself up about not doing anything with it-- partly I was afraid I'd be disappointed in t he results and I'd feel that I had wasted a lot of time and money
4. I was depressed when I came across boxes full of stuff I had never done anything with and was now not really interested in --- decoupage and grape vine wreath stuff, etc....
NOW... when there is the slightest possibility of my considering #1, I am able to skip right to admitting to myself that #4 is in forseeable future....
It has worked well for me... 5|2|Oh, yes, I use it.....but the partial skeins, and those "oh wow, that would make a great xxxx" skeins are taking over! :O Ok, I shouldnt be too hard on myself, most of the new stuff is for a job I was commissioned for, so hopefully most of that will be used up and out of my sight, lol!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|06:45:22|08/02/2011|

the books, leaflets, floss, waste canvas, started projects, even a few kits that were "too cheap to pass up" when I promised I would stop getting stuff because it was a good deal... I have not purchased any supplies since the boys were born (so a little over 5 years) but have several boxes/totes full of stuff that I am honestly never going to finish!

I always have good intentions when I start something, but if I don't get it finished on time for a gift, it gets put back in a plastic shoebox (I try to keep each "active" project in its own see-through plastic shoe box so that I know what is what); or I start something and the person changes decor... I have a 3/4 finished apple tablecloth and then my sister went to birdhouses in her kitchen instead... ugh :( 15|3|lol but your addiction is helping alot of orphans :-)|cjdj|Lintaos@optonline.net|11:51:09|08/02/2011|

If you are a HONEST trader, there is nothing to fear in having a feedback link. If you do not have one, please set one up, BEFORE contacting me for a trade. If you insist on not having a feedback link, please do not contact me to trade. Feedback links protect all of us, on RS. Thanks for understanding. I gave up trying to kick this addiction. I go by these rules:
1. Mary sees yarn
2. Mary wants yarn
3. GET OUT OF MY WAY!! Mary will get all the yarn she wants. And I have 10 big totes to prove my addiction.

There is no cure for this addiction so don't even try. My hubby just puts up with it.

Its this addiction or gambling and with knitting at least I have a blanket or hat to show off when its finished.

my most long-standing addiction is definitely COUPONS. My adult kids are really into couponing now, to meet the needs of their growing families.

REFUNDING is extremely addictive! It almost took over my life for years. And I looked like a "mental case" going through TRASH and picking up empty Marlborough packages from parking lots. Worst of all, I had empty packages of anything that could be refundable, littering the house! I would take road-trips to various other nearby communities, to look for rebate forms. Now there are NONE around any more! Thank God I am over that!

I have also had many other "HOBBIES and/or COLLECTIONS" throughout the years!

STICKERS, especially when my kids were small: do you remember the Sticker-Mania of the late 70's??

DECORATIVE ART RUBBER STAMPS: my daughters and I got into this big-time, way before there was ever "Scrapbooking". We still have most of them.

STATIONERY: in the lates 70's and 80's I had over 100 penpals from around the world. It was great fun keeping in touch with them and hearing what was going on in their countries. We had PENPAL Reunions, and I met quite a few over the years.

FABRIC and PATTERNS: this one started when I was pregnant and needed to make some maternity clothes. It got worse when I started making clothes for my husband and our kids. Now, my grandkids won't even think of wearing anything "homemade"! After all, it wouldn't have AEROpostale on it!

So, I decided that QUILTING would be fun. Well, I have bins full of patterns, fabrics, books, magazines etc. I took lessons, joined groups etc and have yet to FINISH one. I do have several that could be completed, but they were for my grandkids at a younger age, and they won't want them now!

KIDS BOOKS and SCHOOL SUPPLIES: I convinced myself that donating these to various charities was the reason I was buying them! I still do buy alot of these, and will probably never stop, since there is always a need, especially in these hard economic times.

I love collecting miniature "CHARACTERS" and I have just learned that McD's has the Strawbewrry Shortcake ones. I really need to get those!
At one time, many years ago, my girls and I had an amazing collection of SMURFS! But neither of them seems to know what happened to them! There is a new Smurf-mania happening now!

Well, there you have most of them! There are many more, but they were either not as "consuming" or short-lived. Of course I have CATS (both real and decorative), gardening books, ANGEL figures, magnets (almost all of cats), certain types of books (such as cookbooks), and too many more to mention.

I watched a couple of episodes of "Hoarders" and it was so GROSS. I am NOT a hoarder! My daughters insist that I have just had a love for COLLECTING. Certainly my home was never filled with filth, animal do-do's, rotting garbage, etc etc.

A new show airs on TV later this month called CONSUMING. The previews look alot more promising as being something closer to what I have done over the years. We'll see!

In recent years I have remarried and we spend the winter in Florida. There is no "STUFF" there. I am turning over a new leaf!

Any soul-mates out there?? 24|1|Was looking thru tonights yard sales and guess what I found???|Mary1953|ralph260@pymtele.net|21:38:22|08/11/2011|

A yard sale that has yarn. So I'm off to the yard sale in the morning. Maybe I should buy another tote or cram them into one I already have. Who knows what kind of goodies I might find.

Mary1953 25|2|Oh Mary, youre making me envious now! LOL! I did find some at the resale shop here, 25cents a skein, but that was awhile ago, and they've had none since :P|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|21:47:34|08/11/2011|
