I've been reading some magazines and they always say an New York City restaurant, building etc. Why is it an instead of just a NYC restaurant. 
1|1|Should just be a New York City Restaurant.  You only use an when it is a vowel after (an hour - in this case the h is silent, but you kwim). If you google an NYC you'll see what I mean. Pick an NYC photographer, plant an NYC tree etc. It's driving me bonkers because it goes against everything I was taught.
