Been a long time since I did this diet, but I think both milk and fruit are pretty much a no-no.

There may be a couple of fruits that aren't as bad as others, but most (all?) fruits have sugar, so they also have carbs.

Mostly what I remember eating is meats, eggs, and veggies (but not potatoes). I couldn't handle the diet for long though. I'm not a fruit person, but I found myself craving a piece of fruit after a few weeks. I did lose several pounds in the couple of weeks I was on it...I'm quite sure I would have lost lots more if I could have stuck it out.

Google low carb diet, I'm sure you'll find lists of foods with their carbs plus recipe ideas. Good luck with it!

You can have lots of different stuff... just make sure you count carbs if you are diabetic. I might have a brochure around here somewhere that explains all this. 4|1|low carb|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|23:38:26|07/31/2011|

No milk but you can have heavy cream (no half-n-half), just the full fat heavy cream. After induction you can have a few strawberries or half a cup of blueberries, which go nicely with the heavy cream. I lost the most weight when I ate the most fat so I used coconut oil to increase my fat intake. Stick with the fattiest cuts of meat (which are the cheaper ones too) and if you hit a plateau, try 3 days of just eggs, any way you like them. Something about eggs, the more I ate eggs the more I lost. 5|1|Smart Food Choices|Sharon|corvettelady@lavabit.com|00:17:11|08/01/2011|

you just have to eat the right amount of good carbs at the right time in combination with the right foods. Don't go no carb or you will have problems. Your body has to have carbs to function properly. I was told carbs are the bodies fuel...and you have to make sure you fuel your body.

I was sent to a dietician for diabetes and...

I was told that for me I should have 30 carbs with each meal. Each meal should consist of 1/4 of your plate as low fat meat, 1/4 of your plate is a average size amount of carbs, the rest of the plate should be veggies (no corn or peas).

For snacks in between meals... I have to have 15 carbs with a little protein. So a small piece of fruit would be 15 carbs and a small amount of nuts would be a snack.

It is really hard to stay at 30 carbs for each meal, even breakfast is tough! But I could have like a hardboiled egg and 2 pieces of whole wheat toast for breakfast... no orange juice or anything with it... as it would put me over the limit on carbs. Be careful with things like yogurt, there are some that are really low in carbs and some that are ridculously high! Same with the cottage cheese. I found one that was really really low in carbs and others that were really high.

A high fiber bread would be like 15 carbs per piece, so I'll have a burger with a bun and a bunch of veggies with it... no beans, no fries, no chips, no fruit, etc. The darker breads have less carbs that the lighter ones.

I was told if you eat just carbs... your body will crash because your sugar levels will drop too quickly. If you eat your carbs with a little protein... your body gradually drops in sugar because of the protein and you don't crash.

The dietician I went to had fake food and she would put it on a plate and show me what would work and what wouldn't. It was so helpful seeing the portion sizes on a plate. It allows me to visualize the meal now. If you eat right it can be alot of food too!

A couple years ago I went to a diet clinic and they put me on a low carb diet where I had to write in a journal and limit myself to 120 carbs a day, drink 64oz of water and get at least 5,000 steps in on my pedometer ... They told me that I could have a little fruit each day IF I combined it with a protein like: Apples & peanut butter or yogurt, seeds or cheese.. So every time I had a bit of fruit, I always added a little protein with it.

They also told me I didn't necessarily have to count my veggies, I could eat all I wanted but I counted it anyway..

They also told me that a true carb count is when you take the total carb count on the package and subtract the fiber count.. So if 5 whole wheat crackers is say, 25 carbs but there's a fiber count of 5, then the true count would be 20, not 25 as it says on the package..

I lost 40 pounds in 5 months... Then went to Vegas and had a heaping bowl of macaroni and cheese. THAT was my downfall... I came home and couldn't get back my diet conviction.
