Pokey, the orphaned kitten we took in a couple of weeks ago, has a broken leg. He injured it Sunday night. We did not think it was broken, only bruised. We had a family member who was a medic check it out and he couldn't find a break. We decided to watch it for a day then take him to the vet if he didn't improve. Well, the vet's office was closed and we couldn't see him until today. After a tongue lashing from the extremely rude vet and paying a huge deposit, I left Pokey to be x-rayed. The vet called a few minutes ago to tell me Pokey's leg was fractured but the bones were not separated. He gave me three choices of treatment - none promising. First is to do nothing. Second, he can be sedated and the leg moved so it is lined up properly. The vet says this is risky and he doesn't thik it will work. Last, he can perform surgery to correct the problem but he say this will only reinjure the parts of the leg that have begun to heal and could cause further damage. He said it was doubtful this waould help anyway and the risk of putting him under is great because Pokey is so small. I have to call him back in a couple of hours to let him know which option we are choosing. Unfortunately, my husband is in a meeting and I can't get in touch with him. If anyone has dealt with this problem, please let me know what you did and what was the outcome.
By the way, the vet gave new meaning to the word rude and tried to make me feel guilty about not getting there sooner. I was not comfortable with him, but he did call an orthopedic surgeon so I could have a second opinion. I also talked with people who have used this vet and they all said if you could deal with his bedside manner, he is an excellent doctor. Thanks for any advice. 1|1|I would take kitty to a different vet...|Julie|juliejulie1975@yahoo.com|17:14:57|07/28/2011|

They should not act like this! There are more vets out there and you have a right to be comfortable with whom ever you use. I think you will feel better at another vet! Just my opion and what I would do. I love my cats like children and I would only take them to someone they and I were comfortable with! 2|2|I would take the kitten to a different vet, someone who is caring...|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|18:32:52|07/28/2011|

o Yeah he may be a good doctor but he looks at animals as a job with no feeling, I wouldn't want to leave my furry kids in his hands, no way.

After my husband talked with the vet, he agreed that we should find another doctor. DH found a vet in a nearby town that specializes in orhtopedic surgery and is going to set up an appointment to have Pokey's leg set. The new vet thinks the surgery will be successful and Pokey's leg will heal perfectly. Great news (until we get the surgeon's bill)! 4|3|I am glad to hear you found another vet, glad to hear kittens outcome will be great!|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|18:50:39|07/28/2011|
