a mesh bag, like oranges or potatoes come in. It was hung on a beam so it got good air flow from all sides. Seemed to work well.
Good luck. Linda ~ 3|2|Yes, or you can use pantyhose....just cut the leg off , fill it, and then tie the end around a coat hanger, then hang up on a rafter....activated charcoal can be found in the pet section of the store, with the fishtank supplies :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|11:14:01|07/28/2011|

;) 5|1|You'll want to be sure you dont have mold or mildew growing in the basement as the source of the odors....otherwise the odor will come back or hang around no matter what you do.....a dehumidifier works wonders for a damp basement too! I highly recommend it!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:06:33|07/28/2011|

o So far so good, the humidity is lower than before. The dehumidifiers also help to keep mold and mildrew from forming, that is a great thing about them, and takes the musty smell out of the air.

My mom only got a few inches this time, but her neighbor got 4 feet. I was up that way Monday, and could not believe all the tree limbs out for pickup along Lewis Ave.

Using bleach water to get rid of it is a good start as bleach is a mold inhibitor. Just make sure to have good ventilation (might be best to also wear a mask) while messing w/any mold & using the bleach water to clean it up.
Also, if you currently have any cardboard boxes, newspapers, rugs, carpet or exposed clothing stored in your basement/cellar, you'll want to dispose of the boxes & newspapers & give the rugs/carpet & clothing a good thorough cleaning & air dry afterwards. Those types of things tend to easily get moldy & will also hold that moldy/mildewy smell despite using the charcoal or a dehumdifier.
HTH. :)

o for 6 months, no one lived here during that time before I moved in. I mopped the kitchen floor & entrance way with bleach water and mop it every couple of days with bleach water, got the dehumidifiers and the smell is now finally gone for good. When I first moved in here it was so musty that I would gag(only in the kitchen) when trying to eat meals and smelling that musty smell and ended up eating my meals in other rooms and not in my kitchen, it was gross!

Linda 14|5|When the weather gets cooler we will be tearing up the tiles in the kitchen & entranceway and will replace them( out of our own pocket)|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|18:25:52|07/30/2011|

o And we will not ask the landlady for any money. We just want to upgrade the tiles to something nicer. The tile in the kitchen is old and ugly. It's squares of brown and green looks gross. When we tear it up we will see whats under there and I will clean the floor really well before we place new tiles down.
