We got home after midnight last night and will go back down there for his memorial service next month. My siblings are pretty disconnected from one another as a group, but we were all able to show up and help my mom get though these first days which was a good thing. They were married 52 1/2 years, so she seems kind of lost and I am going to worry about her. She can move in with any one of us if she wants to do so, or if she decides she would rather try to stay right there she can do that too.
The one thing that losing Dylan taught me was that I never walk away from someone I love without telling them that. I just saw him in May and got a last hug and told him how much we loved him, so I can feel some peace with that at least. You know that you'll lose your parents eventually, but you just always think there will be more time. I think that is true with losing anyone-- it's always shocking even when it shouldn't be. He was 78, traveled all over the world, had a big family who loved him and a good life. He was also such a character! I miss him, but I am glad I got to be his daughter for all of those years.
Dylan died on my dad's birthday, so I felt a special connection to him because of that.
I am going to throw myself into getting my house ready to leave again as we got to DC on the 3rd and then back to Sacramento in the middle of August for his service so we will be away from home quite a bit. I expect that I will be traveling back and forth to see my mom much more often as well. Anyway thank you for all of the kind thoughts and prayers. If anyone wants to sign it, I know it will help my mom to know that others care. They were married more than 52 years which is pretty remarkable all by itself.
I miss him, but I find myself laughing over some of the stuff he said and did over the years. He was a great dad.

the coming years will be hard for her, it is such a big transision when you have been with someone almost your whole life. You are so blessed to have good memories to look back on, praying God keeps those memories close to you.
