I am looking at buying the VW minivan the Routan. It looks just like my Town & Country on the inside. (For those of you who want to yell at me to buy Americad, it is made in the same plant as my Chrysler Town & Country, which is why it looks the same).

I have owned/leased 3 each Grand Caravans and Town & Country vans. While they have the features I want, they are pieces of junk by the time the lease is up. This one I have, has 32000 miles, I have replaced the front brakes twice, the rear once, spent $500 on radiator repairs, the air never works at the beginning of the summer, and despite several recharges and repairs, by August is dead again. I have had to replace all the tires and have wheel alignments several times. Had an oil leak that cost me a few $100 too. When they asked if I wanted to buy this, I laughed. I refuse to buy another Chrysler or Dodge, none have lasted me more than 2 months after may last payment. One had the wheel wells or something rusted out, the car was not driveable, not fixable and not sellable 30 days after I paid it off.

Looked at some Ford vehicles, couldn't get anything for even remotely close to what I am paying now, even going from a van to a smaller car. I need room to lug my son's drum set and the other son's bass guitar and amp, so a small car really doesn't work anyway.

I really want the features of the van, and there aren't many options, was wondering if anybody owns one and what they think? Also anybody work for VW and have "friends" discounts like Chrysler?

But cost just as much as the minivan and doesn't have the 7 seats. For the same money, I prefer the mini van.

I bought a new one in '99 and it has a birthday coming up. In that time I've lived close to work or took public transit but I bought it to haul bikes around; many friends have used it when they moved, it's gone 85K. It's more like a Civic station wagon than a trucklet, and gets about 27/mpg with my mostly stop and go driving.

It was a toss up between that and a RAV-4, and the deciding factors in 1999
-relatively few choices--only 3 versions of Auto--versus a combinatorial explosion of combinations with Toyota
-lots of headroom in back for my tall friends
-relatively noisy engine! The Toyota speed could not be distinguished by pitch, and I wanted an extra speed evaluation system. Both cars are high, so going speed limit when turning is essential 5|2|DH looked at them, can't afford it|dragonmom|sueedelmann@yahoo.com|07:14:15|07/20/2011|

We almost didn't get a car last time my lease was up, because the prices were so much higher. My lease went from $229 a month to $330, and now I can't seem to find what I need for under $400. We may end up being a one car family, not worth buying a small car that I will hate and not feel safe in, and be unable to use half the time with the kids' stuff. The VW came in at $40 more than my current payment including taxes, etc. while the Town & Country was $399 plus tax, with payment of $428. I just can't do that! And that's with the smallest mileage, I went over this time because of all my trips to the hospital, but if you raise the mileage, the price goes up a lot!

We looked at used but they weren't very good deals for ones that we thought we good. Lots of old ones with 80K+ miles, don't want that, but ones that were low mileage were not much cheaper than getting the new one once you financed it.

in the market for a car I know he would consider one 7|1|One thing to consider is the cost of repairs and parts with a VW product....my BIL has a Beetle (2004 I think), and he about died when he had to pay over $150 for a headlight to be replaced when it died out.......there is something weird with the engine/etc configurations under the hood too on some models, like they are sideways, or something....makes it harder to work on the simplest things and gets costly with labor.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|11:27:33|07/20/2011|

we took it back a few times and they kept telling us there was nothing but we took it back the last time and the warrenty was up and then they found it lol but our records showed we had been in there a few times for teh same problem so they covered it Shrtly after that we traded it in for a newer model lol
