My neighbor just lost her job again. This is the 4 th one that she got laid off from. She has the worst luck. She has 4 older cats ages 14, 15, 16 & 17. One requires insulin. Plus 1 dog. And on top of all this before she got laid off, she is sponsoring to walk in the Susan G. Korman 3 day walk for breast cancer which is a basket bingo also.

What I need help is w/ any Free cat food cpns to help her out. I hope this isn't too much to ask for.

I'm trying to help her out w/ what little I have & can do for her.

I'm NOT a begger. I'm always there for others. I was raised that way to give but not recieve.
So if anyone can help me out, PLMK
Thanks,

About the Program
This food is intended to be supplemental; we cannot supply each pet’s entire diet.
How long these deliveries continue will depend on support from the community.

To Receive Food:

During these tough economic times, everyone is being hithard. The Western PA Humane Society wants to help!
We have started a program, Ellie’s Pet Pantry, to help families that have fallen on hard times and are struggling to
keep their animals and their families intact. If you can’t afford to feed your pet and need some extra help, please come to the Western PA Humane Society on the North Shore and we will give you food for your animals.

A photo identification is required when picking up food.

For a pickup appointment and type of animals or if you have any questions about our program, please contact
Linda Feitl at 412-321-4625 x.246 or email her at linda.feitl@wpahumane.org. Calls will be returned Mon -Thurs between 9:00 and 3:00. NO WALK-INS PLEASE.

We are sorry but we are only able to help individuals, not rescue groups or breeders.

To Offer Your Help:

Donations to Ellie's Pet Pantry are urgently needed. If you can help, please deliver donations of canned or dry pet food to the Western PA Humane Society at 1101 Western Avenue, 15233. The Humane Society facility is located on the North Shore. We welcome donations for household animals of any species, including rabbits, ferrets, birds, hamsters and guinea pigs; the program's clientele is not confined to dogs and cats.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Allison at412-321-4625 x. 223 or allison.sanders@wpahumane.org. The need for this program is serious and ongoing. As families struggle with the loss of jobs and other sources of income, your help can make all the difference to sparing children, parents, and the family pet the heartache of separation. Furthermore, this program is a win-win proposition: Bykeeping the animals in their homes and out of a shelter, the program avoids putting additional stress on our shelter and our limited resources. Thank you for your support!

"Here's a way to keep more pets in their homes and out of the shelter: Offer dog and cat food to needy families who themselves may be turning to food banks for help. That's exactly what the Pennsylvania SPCA did opening Philadelphia's first food bank for pets.

"During its grand opening today, the pet food bank helped about ten families, including a man who needed some kibble for the 15-year-old dog he had adopted from the shelter ten years ago, said spokeswoman Heather Redfern. Others came loaded with donations for the hungry pets. The food bank's opening comes as news reports reveal the economy is forcing more families to give up their beloved animals or worse, some abandon them on the streets.

"The food bank will be open every other Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., at the PSPCA’s Philadelphia Adoption Center located at 350 E. Erie Avenue. The next opening is March 15. Dog and cat food, as well as cat litter, will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

'For more information, email info@pspca.org or call 215-426-6300. Individuals and organizations wishing to donate food for the program - or towels, treats or toys for shelter residents - can stop by the PSPCA’s Philadelphia Adoption Center seven days a week. For more information on making a food donation, contact PSPCA Director of Development Rachel McCrystal at 215-426-6304, ext. 217 or rmccrystal@pspca.org"

Pet Food Bank

Because HSHA participates in the Hill’s/Science Diet Shelter Feeding Program, we frequently have an excess of donated food of other brands. This food is placed into our Pet Food Bank for needy pets in the community. Pet owners who are struggling to feed their pets may access the food bank, and food is also distributed through other local animal welfare organizations and food banks. Patrons of the pet food bank who need dog food are required to show proof of a valid dog license. Dog licenses are required by law and can be a life-saving tool for stray or lost dogs. Dog licenses can be purchased for a nominal fee at HSHA.

HSHA also partners with AniMeals, who distributes pet food to elderly pet owners participating in Meals on Wheels. For more information, contact HSHA at (717) 564-3320.
