1st thing is to make sure her mouth is fully open when she lataches on. If shes latching good it shouldn't hurt. -- hurting is signs of her not getting a good latch

My youngest is almost 4 so its been along time-- -- I found this page that maybe helpful for you.
http://www.breastfeeding.com/breastfeeding-questions/breastfeeding-positions-latch/qa/it-hurts-when-my-baby-latches.aspx#read_answers
Hopefully this can give u some helpful advice!

I love seeing more and more moms breastfeeding - breastmilk is best - but remember breastmilk is just as good if put in a bottle!
When my little was starting out we had problems with her feedings. My breast are large and when my milk came in my breast were so hard she couldn't latch at all- so I ended up having to pump for her and give it to her in a bottle. Well after 2 feedings in a bottle she refused to go back to the breast.

It made me so mad at 1st - I felt like I failed her but I promised her I would do my best to pump my milk for her everyday.
I knew it was best for her so I countinued to pump for her because she was being stuborn(lol)
and believe it or not it worked out really well for me. Everyone got to feed her and bond with her and I didn't have to be with her 24/7.
I knew I wanted her to breast feed until she was at least 10 mts old / eating foods. So I pumped a few times aday. I froze my extras and cycled them out the freezer.
I pumped for about 10 minutes when I woke up around 8 then around 11 then around 4 then around 9 and I would either do it right before I went to bed if I stayed up late or do it if I had to get up for a feeding. My supply was great - Remember its all supply and demand. By the time she was 10 mts old I pumped once when I woke up then again around 3 and then right before bed. My freezer was stocked so I finally went down to twice a day until my body just kinda stopped producing - she was a year. I had so much milk froozen she had milk until she was over 14 mts old.

Good luck -- I hope your little one will coporate with you - I just wanted to give you some advice that i wished I would have gotten. If she won't take from the breast it doesn't mean she can't be breast/bottle feed - its just as good! 4|2|I also opted for pumping and giving the breastmilk via bottle.....I have twins, and that worked out the best for us (I did attempt breastfeeding for about a week, but they weren't getting enough to eat at one time, thereby not sleeping more than about an hour or so at a time.....and I was literally doing nothing but feeding, changing and bathing babies all day and night)....I continued for about 16 weeks, then switched them to formula when I went back to work and then cut back to pumping twice a day to supplement their formula feedings until they were about months old.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|07:21:46|07/06/2011|

6|2|You may want to try working with the lactation specialist first just to see if that works out with some training/help :) That way you can bypass the bottles, bags, freezing milk, using the pump (at least for the majority of the time).....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|08:37:35|07/06/2011|

Definitely make sure she's opening her mouth up wide and then use the lansinoh cream. Really, when I nursed my first, I had some pained bubbas, but after a few weeks, the girls were broken in and I had no other issues. Try lots of different positions until you find one for you. Your baby is a more efficient sucker than any breast pump and a hand pump doesn't always do a good job. WIC should be able to get you a rental pump if you have to resort to that. Don't worry so much that you can't physically see what she's getting. Go in for frequent weight checks. If she's not gaining or losing, then she's not getting enough. If she's gaining, then she's definitely getting enough.

Also, check out the Le Leche League site -- they have a listing of LLL local branches that may be of great assistance and support: http://www.llleus.org/state/Kentucky.html

U shouldNOT go more then 10 to 15 on each side of if double pump no more then a total of 15 minutes. You don't have to pump until they are dry. Thats key! Its supply and demand.
If you pump for 10 to 15 minutes about every 2 hours at 1st like a baby would feed -your body will start to produce more and more.
If you pump longer than that its doing to 1) cause damage-soreness and 2) really make your breast go into production over drive and cause your breast to get really really really engorced - & a week isn't too long infants don't eat that much in the first week-

This a mistake alot of people make & even I made with my 1st child you think the 1st time u pumped oh no I didn't really get much an ounce or 2 if your lucky- well think about it -- thats whats going to happen - your not going to get a gallon to feed a week old - lol -
I thought the samething and went into panic mode - by child 3 I was a pro - lol

Relax drink lots of fluid - pump for about 10 to 15 minutes every 2 hours during the day and maybe wait 4 hours at night to get some sleep -I wouldn't go more then 4 until your supply comes it. -- If you do this it will - I promise! Its alot of work for the 1st few weeks but then when your supply is good u can cut back on how often you do it - alot of the time I wouldn't need a clock -my breast would tell me - they would get full and start to tingle and I knew it was time.
It will get so routine you will be able to do it anywhere - we took a trip to Disney when mine was 4 mts old and I would go to the nursing moms room pump, and then go play - I had a little battery & plug in single for travel and I had a double one for at home. I recommend the double one it makes things so easy. --

good luck - I'd be happy to give you anymore advice if you need it you can contact me by e-mail
I'm not going to say I'm a pro- but I have a 12,9, and almost 4 yr old and best milk was the best thing I could have done for them - my children are hardly every sick. So I guess I did something right - : ) take care!
