legally registered banks are required to take your change. it is government currency.they may not like taking coins but they are legally required to do so. if i were you and they would not take my change i would find another bank.

Stick with local credit unions and I bet you'll find you get better service plus that way your money does not make any large banks more money! They got enough of a break from Uncle Sam!
Credit unions often have very simple requirements to open an account (ours is basically if you work in this county and agree to keep a minimum of $25 you can get an account!) Ours has a change machine and are very nice when we take coins to them.

The one here only requires a min. balance of $5, no min. $$$ amount to open an acct. & NO charge for anyone to bring in change for the coin counter. Better interest rates as well. Everyone is welcome! :)
Seems all the other banks are getting to be more like loan sharks anymore. :(
Try to find a credit union that's a cooperative so it's owned by the customers while still being FDIC insured. I LOVE mine & the people who work there. :)

Coinstar doesn't charge their fee for e-certs... is there some place you can use that money that is an e-cert there? I also belong to a credit union... I don't know that I ever want to go back to a regular bank. Ever.
