every morning I take a stroll to see the progress, always amazed at how fast things grow. Picking pea pods, swiss chard, and lettuce now. Have some golf ball size tomatoes, some small sqaush.

Nothing ever works... I shouldn't say that though... because I can grow lettuce in pots pretty easily, but only one side of the pot grows when i do! It's funny! But I have about 7 or 8 small tomatoes on my 6 plants. And my daughters bean plant has 1 on it! LOL

My peppers didn't do well. nor did anything else. I'll keep trying though. I might just start growing lettuce and tomatoes! I can deal with a bunch of salad! 6|2|Those all sound so nice, I have always wished I could have a garden but can't|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|21:07:53|06/17/2011|

I have much more luck in containers. I would love to have a huge garden in the ground like mom did when growing up... but I'm not sure it's possible here without lots of pesticide and lots of time... and I prefer to garden without pesticide.

I planted all of mine from seeds and love going out to see them each day. My tomatoes got too much rain and had to be replaced (with one starter plant and one in a container w/ seeds), so they are still super small. I do have some nice bunches of lettuce out there that are almost ready to pick and radishes too. My cauliflower, cantaloupe are nowhere close to ready. I also have another patch of lettuce that gets more shade and is growing slowly but I figure that ought to work out well since we'll eat the first patch and hopefully by the time that is about gone the second patch will be ready.

My pumpkins never grew (planted them after Halloween shortly after moving in here.)

Before this house we lived in apartment after apartment just like Linda, so this is my first attempt at a garden. I am loving it! 9|2|That is so cool Vanessa, nothing like fresh from the garden food...|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|22:01:49|06/17/2011|

o I am hoping one day I can have a house too, you know exactly how I feel as you've been apt to apt also...feel so trapped in and no space to do anything. After you've had fresh garden food the stuff in the store tastes like crap, lol..My parents always had a garden and my dad has one growing now...I am hoping to go see my parents this summer and eat fresh tomatoes and cucumbers picked from the vine...yum!!

if it is the loose leaf kind, you can just snip the tops off and it will regrow. I planted a second bunch in the shade of my peas on purpose, lettuce is a cool season veggie, and starts to get bitter with the heat.
