Dr says I definately have kidney issues. He thinks it is Hyperfiltration. I have a ultrasound scheduled for Friday and I have to do a Sleep Study because he thinks alot of this is caused by Sleep Apnea. I also need to lose a bunch of weight right away. He suggested something like weight watchers... but I really can't afford to do a program like that right now. If anyone has any books for weight watchers that would help, that would be great. I'll pay for them if it's reasonable. Otherwise I'm just going to cut out all the bad foods (and yes, I know what they are, they are just so comforting!). I lost over 100 pounds once before and I have to do it again.

All the symptoms I have had for many many years, all fit for Kidney problems. Who knew! No one ever mentioned it before! The tests showed it, but no one caught it until now. He said that the good news is that most people with this condition never need dialysis... however they frequently have cardiac issues that get them first! So we have to make sure nothing is wrong with the right side of my heart.... I need to eat healthy and excercise!

It was all so much to take in today. I'm going to try and research everything and see what I can find. In the meantime my plates will be full of mostly vegetables, fruits and whole grains and I'll have to watch my protein portions. But I also have to stay within a diabetic diet so my blood sugar doesn't go up.

I also have to monitor my blood pressure on a regular basis and keep a log. He wants to see how it fluctuates while at home. So he sent me to a medical store to get a good blood pressure monitor!

So there is $200 more out the door, and I have to do the ultrasound and the sleep study... last time I checked the sleep study was not cheap! Insurance didn't cover much of it. And I have a huge amount of labs that have to be done. He said they would be taking a lot of blood on my visit to the lab. So I have that to look forward to!

I just hope whatever I have is reversible!

Laurie

JOY M GUERRINGUE 3|1|Having an answer is half the battle won! :) If I had known you needed a BP monitor, I coulda pointed you in the direction of some good ones on Amazon or ebay. Although it is a a big challenge with lots of changes for you, I know you can do it....you are one tough cookie, and don't you forget it! :) |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:39:56|06/07/2011|

they said they were just using too small of a cuff to get a good reading and they took me off of blood pressure meds! Now they want me watching it again. I hope the ultrasound finds something that can be fixed... It's sad that I'm hoping for a kidney stone or something that can be fixed!

I made small hamburgers tonight (only 1 for each person, not 2) and paired it with a salad with lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and cucumber. The guys got some cheese and bacon bits on theirs. It really felt like something was missing.... but it was still good. I'm going to try to stick to fresh fruits and veggies when possible, but I'll have frozen as a back-up.

The last time I lost 100 pounds I felt like I was starved all the time. I hope I can make it work better this time.

Laurie 6|3|I've heard that weight watchers really does work, and I dont any that have done it that felt they were going hungry.....in fact, a couple of gals said they couldnt eat as many points as they were supposed to without eating two or three snacks a day. I need to jump on that wagon too....dang, I'm getting downright ROUND!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|21:18:13|06/07/2011|

she has AWESOME recipes that follow along the WWPoints plus program. Then there is other information on her site about the WW program.
I wish she had a cookbook I would buy it. But in the meantime I printed a bunch of recipes. You can do this. Losing weight is tough but do-able. I'm so sorry you are going through all this but losing weight helps your body overall even if you didn't have kidney issues. Go to the site I promise you won't be disappointed. She even has an amazing Mac and Cheese recipe! YUM! 8|2|Thanks for posting the link, Jilda....I'm going to check it out too :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|21:28:13|06/07/2011|

It's really hard to make changes.
I really like sparkpeople.com for tracking calories. You can also use their menus (or not, your choice) and they have other weight loss tools there too.

The RS weight loss support group is a fun way to stay motivated too.
Best of luck to you! 10|1|Laurie...|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|21:54:05|06/07/2011|

I am so sorry you have to go through so much girlie, but I agree with Joy, you are a tough cookie and you can do it. We all have Faith in you and I will be praying. I need to lose some pounds myself, it's been so hard, I've never weighed this much in my life, but they drs. think I have thyroid issues and other problems, my cousin has gone through the same thing as myself, so it must be something hereditary..I wish I lived closer, we could help each other. I know this is weird, but I found that when I craved chocolate I would eat purple cabbage and it helped the craving, isn't that weird. We are all rooting for you and hope everything turns out well. My hubby has sleep apnea and they think I do too...Hugs, Rebekka

He said I had to get a good one from a medical supply place. I found one today for $118.00. IT's the Life Source Advanced One Step Blood Pressure Monitor. Had to get it in the right size too. This one is supposed to be very accurate. Thanks! 13|1|Ugh! Now our sink and Washing Machine are backing up....|jdlaurie|savethosepennies@aol.com|00:32:26|06/08/2011|

If it wasn't for bad luck, I would have none at all! Trying to snake the dang thing at 12:31 in the morning and nothing is happening! All I was trying to do was wash my Mom's clothing so I can sell them in a garage sale to help with the burial costs! I've been doing laundry all day! I put hers in and the whole dang thing backs up!

I really could cry!

Thanks everyone for being so understanding. I have no where else to vent!
