Even though it is hot right now, I know winter is coming. We heat our house with a wood stove, but it was too cold last winter in the house for my husband since his stroke. I saw a sale on infared heaters called Solar Flare and wondered if they were any good. I would appreciate any info on them before I decide to buy. I have to make most of the decisions now and I do not want to mess it up. Thank you, teresa 1|1|I know 2 different HH that have one.....|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|08:38:37|06/05/2011|

My niece & her dh have one & my sister & bil have one.
An infra-red might work ok for you if burning wood is your only source of heat but for those whose main source of heating the whole house is a fuel fired furnace (natural gas, propane, fuel oil), it's probably better to use the main fuel source for more even heat & for what the infra-red will run up on your elect. bill. The infra-red is really not much different than any other elect. space heater as it will only provide heat for a certain area - usually just the 1 room it's in - & what someone would possibly save on a fuel bill, the infra-red would likely use up in electricity anyway, so no real savings.
You can get other, smaller & just as safe elect. space heaters for less cost than an infra-red & get the same results.
I have a little Lakewood elect. space heater w/a built in fan. I can use 750 watts or 1500 watts. It has exterior metal safety bars & a safety feature where if it tips over, it automatically shuts off. If I remember right, I think I only paid $20-$30 for it several yrs. ago.
HTH. :)

ETA: My niece/dh & my sister/bil paid over $200 for their infra-reds. Personally, I think I got the better deal w/my Lakewood. ;) Here's a pic of the Lakewood I have.
