uuugggghh! Long Story Short:
I sold a pair of jeans on eBay - did not think to purchase a tracking number when I shipped it - nor did the buyer request a tracking number - buyer claims never received package - is filing a dispute with Paypal - the only evidence I have in the case showing that I did indeed ship the package is the receipt from the post office showing the buyer's city/state/weight of package/date shipped...
I have offered to refund 1/2 the payment - I feel this is fair because we'll both be out the same thing - 1/2 the payment and the item - buyer doesn't think this is fair. (Actually I'll be out more, right? since I am losing out on the original cost of purchasing the item as well as the shipping cost?)
Will I lose more monetarily or otherwise if I don't give in to buyer's demand for full refund?
Should I grant full refund? Or wait until buyer files claim with Paypal and let Paypal review and decide on the case?
Whose side will they most likely favor?
What would YOU do?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Always allow the amt. it costs to get a delivery confirmation from now on. Can you offer to scan up a copy of the receipt to the person or to eBay?

Printing labels is real easy through ebay. You can print the labels on regular paper and just cut it down to size if need be and tape it to the box.
I think D.C. is only .19 or something like that for first class mailings and is free for priority mail when printed online.

You never know what kind of people you are dealing with when you use the online auctions.. I love RS here because on the whole, most of us are honest and don't take advantage etc... We try and stick up for eachother etc.. I hate to say this, but it sounds like the buyer probably got what you sent but are taking advantage of the fact that there was no proof you sent it. Like you said though, we all learn from our mistakes. It IS cheaper to get your delivery confirmation online. Here at my po, they are .80.. online they are like, .19 or something.
I learn something all the time.. have only done one other auction on eBay as well as this week's. It's scary because one little mess up, and a person can be blacklisted with bad feedback. Here on RS, the traders are pretty forgiving if you make an honest mistake:)

Without a tracking number to show it was delivered ebay will give the buyer all of their money back. If you have a tracking number and it shows delivered they will not get their money back. Maybe they really did not get it. I have had problems with the PO several times before. One time sending stuff to my parents, they never got it. It was lost for months and one day it finally showed up! I would always do a tracking number when selling stuff it's the only way to protect yourself. I can understand where the buyer is coming from...if I never received my items that I purchased and the seller wanted to show me the receipt that it was mailed that wouldn't comfort me if I didn't actually receive the items. Sorry you are going through this but you can't assume the buyer is lying, plenty of things get lost in the mail. I recently sold something and it was over 100.00. I was going to insure it but I decided not too (went against my better judgement). The person only lived about 1 hour away so I figured it would get there quick and no worries. I get free delivery confirmation as I print my postage at home. When I went to check the delivery status the next day it said "out for delivery" but it never said delivered. It may have been. Anyway about 3 weeks later he claimed he never received it. Well I think he may have and he looked at the status and saw it wasn't ever offically delivered and maybe took advantage of it. Anyway I had to give him a full refund and it had delivery confirmation. The lady at my Post Office said that's a problem they've been having that the postal carriers when they get to the address arn't checking it off when the item gets delivered. There's no way to prove this so ebay will favor the buyer. It really sucks. Carol
