The lawyer can take care of the necessary paperwork to "freeze" bank accts. & other assets so he can't clean out the bank accts. or come to the house & take everything from there as well. I'm afraid that until Kandy gets a lawyer & the court order to put a "freeze" on everything, he can rack up credit card bills, etc. &/or take whatever he wants out of the house. :(
I know 2 different people this happened to - soon-to-be-exhubby #1 ran up the credit card bills & then filed bankruptcy so EVERY place they owed came after the wife, including the hospital for what was left on the bill from when their son was born.
Soon-to-be-exhubby #2 cleaned out the bank accts. AND then cleared out the house when the wife wasn't home. When she came back home that day, there was NO money left in accts. & all she had to sit/sleep on was the floor.

Might not be a bad idea either, once a "freeze" is in place, to post dated public notices in all your local newspapers stating, "I am no longer responsible for debts incurred other than my own", w/your name underneath. I'm not sure but you might be able to do this now as it might help cover your butt later on in the event he's currently racking up anymore bills/debt. Once the notices are published, retain a copy of at least 1 showing the date of notice, date of publication & name/location of newspaper.
Then too, get his name off everything that is an ASSET to you.

i suggest you go to bank to seperate account to avoid bad name or use your money also if you have credit card on both name. please call credit card to remove your name off that day you and your hubby seperate. when court will look at date you file for sepearte that they will tell hubby to pay debt that day you and your hubby seperate that day when you file in court.
