he is basically bed ridden........he cant do anything for himself much....he can fed himself a bit..ect.....cant stand or walk......

someone has to be with him 24/7 ........since everyone else works...most of everything falls for me to do...........

my brother stayed last nite...and i gotta run in a few...to spend the day..........

thinking i need to bring him home with me...if im gonna have to spend everyday at his house...then i need to bring him to my house..so when hes sleeping i can get other stuff done..........

i feel like my life at home is on hold.......always got piled up laundry......i always have dirty dishes.......im always on the road...........

but im gonna do everything i can to keep him out of a nursing home............ 17|4|I'm so sorry the stroke affected him so badly :( Is he getting home therapy for physical and occupational therapies?? Also, did you ask if he qualifies for home nursing care a few times a week to give the family a break? The therapies would be covered under Medicare, as may the nursing visits. If none of this has been arranged, call the hospital social worker were he was at, and ask! I'll be praying for him, and for the family who will be his caregivers....it is very difficult, stressful, and exhausting.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|08:11:26|06/02/2011|

Actually it isn't medacare that will apy for the nursing favility itself tHat is medicaid and to qualify for that if he can not afford private care he can not have no more than $2000 in assets Is anyone else's name on the home? 21|6|Yes, there is a 'grace period' of five years for assets to be gifted/transferred to another family member.....also, Medicare only pays for skilled care up to 100 days based on the therapy/nursing needs per occurrence. And it only pays 100% for the first 20 days, so a secondary/supplemental insurance is needed to pay the other 20% for it all to be covered. After Medicare part A is done, longterm care insurance, private pay, or Medicaid would be options. But if there is a home and cash assets, then there would be a spend-down based on the spouse still living in the home.....it is quite complicated, but a social worker at any nursing home should be able to help lay it all for you and give you info on how to apply for Medicaid if that is a possibility.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|22:23:55|06/02/2011|

required to supply to a social worker and if you can make sure you watch them tag and handover any paperwork you may drop off at the office too That was the one thing that drove me to the edge I dropped off what they wanted that I didn't have at my first meeting and it got "lost" and they did not bother to tell me untill the time allowed for the application was up J knows I was nail spitting mad and somehow after I flew into them my paperwork appeared out of thin air lol I am sure he gets SS and that along with any pension and such would have to be turned over to the home each month they do allow for you to pay any supplement health insurance he may have and they will leave you with $40 a month for his personal use With the house I believe if there is no spouse when either you sell it before or later on that money goes to medicaid to pay back so to speak what they paid out for his care. They also keep his medicare going ad that pays for any hospital care he may need during his time at th home and it also pays for up to 100 of physical therapy while there also hth 23|8|teener......my mom passed a few yrs ago......her name is still on the deed....|couponsnsamples|cpsnsamples@aol.com|06:58:11|06/03/2011|

his funeral has not been pre paid......but he has money in the bank to cover that.....i would think if i took his money out and pre paid

for the funeral........then that would be none of their business.....correct..? but all else would have to be out of his name for 5yrs? right..........what a _________

mess!!! 24|9|No that is required we had to turn in Moms life insurance and prepay and if there would have been any left it would go to medicaid to|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|07:25:45|06/03/2011|

Yeah it is crazy When you apply for medicaid they want to know all of what you own that has value Mom had added Gary to her title on her car shortly after we moved here so it had not been 5 years but according to the blue book it is not worth over the $2000 limit I don't know if he had any credit cards or not but right now that is who I am going back n forth with as they want more a month on it than her $40 i understand that I am not responsable for it but they say I am or they will sue her lol Like they'd get anything lol 26|10|Teener ...|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|08:26:24|06/03/2011|

would they not let you pay off all her credit cards or bills as part of her spend down? You are right, that they can not make you pay for you parents debt. I had a hosp that was trying to tell me that I was responsible for one of my dads bills because they did not get their paper work turned in on a timely basis to get it paid. No way.

funeral is a very wise thing to take care of, and it is allowed, I don't know about now, but there used to be no limits on what you could put into a funeral trust. I had to cancel some life insurance policy's but if it is a term life and the person is no longer considered able to make decisions for themselves, then those can not be canceled and go to whoever the beneficiar is when the person dies.

Also if he was a vet, you can actually apply and recieve 90 a month instead of the 40.

After my dads second stroke, we tried him living with my brother for awhile who's wife is a cna, and he would go to the VA each day for daycare, but it just got to be too much. I moved him into a home that was close to me, it does not have to be the worst thing, the important thing is being there, and taking them out as much as you can. My little one remembers sitting on his bed eating donut holes and watching cartoons with him several mornings a week. Also making friends with the staff and treating them well can go a long way in the care of your loved one.

My dad had a third stroke that left him a quadroplegic for two years. I can say this journey with my dad was the toughest 10 years of my life, but very healing from a troubled childhood and I am very glad for that.

Praying for you as you make decisions, and praying for healing for your dad.

term life could only be cancelled by the person who owns it, and if they are deemed not able to make their own decisions, then no one else can cancel or change it. I know I tried as my dads legal gaurdian,of health and finances, and could not. Then I just had to present proof to medicaid that I tried to cancel it and was not allowed to. When he died the money went to those he had as beneficairies, because legaly that could not be changed either.
