My disabled husband and I are planning a trip to the DC area in Sept.He was in Vietnam and would like to see the wall.
We don't know anything about the DC area so we don't know where to stay. We have been told some areas are not safe. I found a few Hotels
1- Hilton Garden Inn Campell ave. Arlington, Va
2-Hilton Springfield Loisdale Rd Springfield, Va
3-Hilton Maryland (can't remember right now exactly where this one was)

Please help me find a safe place if you know of any.
we have a small budget to work with.
Thank you,Mary

At Embassy Suites in Crystal City. It's about 1 mile from DC. The transportation system is pretty good. There are tour buses if you don't want to take the subway. The bus is an on and off setup, so you can pick which sites you want to get off at. It does stop at the Wall. DC is a lovely place to visit. If you want to see things like the White House or Congress, write to your elected officials for tickets. It used to be you can visit these places on a whim, but since 9/11 they have tightened it down a lot. 3|2|Thank you|stressedmi|stressedmi@comcast.net|08:02:22|05/30/2011|

I am so excited about this! I never get to go anywhere, but I lined up child care with my sister and if everything falls into place I should be in DC in August for a jobs with Justice conference.

We're staying at the Quaker House (I think....)
I haven't done much research yet myself, but I know I will do a whirlwind of a tour of the Smithsonian and the zoo (and those are all free except for maybe 1-2 specific museums-- there are a lot of things you can do for free around DC).

Husbands been there before and he says the areas around the museum/white house etc are pretty safe. Lots of security around. The last time I was in DC I was about 12, so this will be a whole different experience.

We also want to meet up with our senators there and will be making those reservations soon. The conference goes three days and we are going to try to ensure that we stay an extra day or so (before or after so we have a little time to explore.

I'll share any info as I find it with my own planning. :0)

Days Inn
2201 Arl Blvd. (Rte 50 at Ft. Myer), Arlington, Virginia 22201.
Reservation: 866-869-8012
Phone: 703-525-0300
Discover a wide array of amenities, including free shuttle to the Rosslyn Metro Station
( 5 mintues to george town, dc one of the safest areas in dc), onsite restaurant and lounge, and complimentary high-speed Internet access.
around the cheapest you are going to find also
if you are planing on taking public transit get the all week or day pass to save you money.. also do not buy food or drinks down by the capital. will cost 20 a person for hotdog and drink.. try to pack a lunch and bring a thermal with u for drinks. all the museums are free to get in.. if you get into george town there is a little french buffet restaurant which is cheap and nice as well Madeline its called there is a blue bus that stops at the hotel and takes you down george town it is 1.50 per person unless senior or special needs you get a discount which then would be only like 50 cents to ride it
hope that helps out some 10|2|Thank you|stressedmi|stressedmi@comcast.net|19:58:36|05/30/2011|

:) 8|1|I use to live in Herndon, near Dulles Airport, hubby worked in DC at the White House and other places, MyCat is right, there's places outside of the city to stay that would be cheaper :) There's really alot to see, we wanna go back up there, they are opening an American Girl store there (Tyson's Corner) and Cheyenne wants to see it, so we are hoping to go up there again sometime, we now live about 3 hours or so from there~*~|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|15:29:25|05/30/2011|

Hi Mary,

I am a U.S. Air Force Vietnam Veteran, but I have never seen the wall in DC. The following link may help you find what you are looking for plus any other questions you may have. If not, some one at that site should know where to stay safely in DC.
