Ok..so daughter had appt in another town where I often shop at a Kroger there. It's the closest to my home area around here. They change coupon policies every few months but usually not too big a deal. Today..this one takes the cake! I was soo mad I took my coupons back and left my items on the register belt.
First..I realize stores can make their policies and do what they want. However is this Kroger TRYING to drive it's customers away?!
When I first got in the store daughter points out they have computer printed up a notice and taped it to table inside the door..NOT at eye level..but maybe at a childs (small child's) eye level..stating they are no longer accepting internet printed coupons. They always did before unless it was a 'free' item coupon and as long as it scanned or wasn't 'suspicious' they took it. Well..I went there specifically with items to get with IP cpns so that shot that. I decided OK..will just take a look around ..maybe some store pads out for cpns or something ..so will make a quick run through. Just coming up on the checkout lane, I see they still have the softsoap 10/$10. THinking I have cpns for that so will stock up again. Went thru the last batch I got here a few weeks back (not IP cpns but reg coupons). OK...got 31 of them as I had cpns for that many.
I get up to register and informed that (a)no longer taking IP cpns (yes..know that since we seen the sign but these were from inserts..can plainly see that) and (b) there are NEW rules for coupons. Now..only accepting 2 'alike' cpns per product that they will double and only 10 coupons PERIOD per product. So 10 softsoap..will double the first 2 cpns and the rest (8) will be face value. Hmm..OK. Still not a bad deal. Then they got the 'official' new rules from the office adn went down it. Reads that there is a limit of 10 coupons PERIOD PER PRODUCT PER DAY. You must wait 24 hrs before coming back in and again using another 10 cpns for 10 more of the same product.
Are you SERIOUS??!! Well..it's a 45 min one way drive there for me and will not return there to that store until/unless their policy is changed. I have never been in there and seen ANYTHING wiped off the shelves due to coupons as they always would limit things like that anyway. They are already 'pricy' so now not being able to buy quite a bit of a item with coupons is the pits. That means on their 10/$10 sale you can't stock up at all either.
Well..the other major grocery store in town will hopefully get their business as they happily accept coupons (can get 20 of something (or more) with a coupon for each with no hassle) ..can use regular OR IP cpns there..and they gladly take wine tags as well. They just don't double but they often have good sales anyway. Plus there is Aldi's and Super Kmart & SuperWalmart as well there to take their business at this rate.
I am still upset and flabbergasted at this new policy and am seriously thinking of calling corporate tomorrow.
Anyone's opinions on this is more than welcome. Again, I know they can set their policies however they like but to drive away business is crazy especially in this economy when people have to save when and where they can and be 'savvy' shoppers. I most always see people using coupons there and in fact a gal did today in front of me. She only had a few things today but think she will get a 'shocker' when she tries to do a bigger order in the future.

They will double 4 of the same coupons. All coupons are worth at least $1.00. They also take competitor coupons.
But...I see the prices of many of the products have sky rocketed big time. The ads are not the same from other parts of the country.
There is alot of competition here with grocery stores but time will tell. I would not be surprised to see changes in the works, here, too.

I don't think I am allowed to post what Kroger corp emailed a customer in regards to coupons from another board, but in a nut shell it says the manager has the right to accept, decline or limit the quantity of coupons used or items purchased in a single transaction, by a single customer or in a single day.

They do take only certain printable ones. They changed this policy a few years ago.
Who know they may just cut out c/o`s all together. I noticed my spartan store now is
putting the c/os on the receipts when you purchase, which is a real pain, because you
have to save that receipt to get the $$ off........... GRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrr
So pretty soon they all will be doing the same. If you get the right cashier, you may get lucky
and they will double, even if the c/o states do not double. :)) Has to have the 5 at the
beginning of the code #.

What does it matter how many items a person gets with coupons? The store does get there money back and then some. We don't have any stores that double coupons...but I like to use my coupons as well and had a hassle with a cashier at cvs saying there was a limit, when there clearly was not! We shop at Aldi's as well, and local store "Tonys" for meat and hh stuff, shop at cvs and Walgreens also. Everything is getting so expensive we are all trying to save a money when we can. I only shop at stores where they will take my coupons without a hassle.
**Forgot to say all our stores here where we shop will not accpet internet coupons which really stinks, cuts down our savings..They have not accepted them for the past 3 years, the scammers ruined it for us.

OK..called corp and told them everything..including I live 45 min ONE way from any large chain store and myself (and others living here in this area) need to buy as much as possilbe to save on gas as it's over $4 a gallon here and use coupons seeing how the economy is the pits ..need to save money on groceries to pay for the gas to go get them!.
The gal at corp seemed 'shocked' when I explained the stores policy to her. She said she was going to submit this info right away to corp and didn't think they would be happy (her words) to here how this store tweeked the policy this way.
I was gone for most of the day but when I returned there was a message to call the comanager of the Kroger's I went to.
That gal..long story much shorter...said this was 'corporates' new policy and they couldn't change it. Also said they are doing it as too many people were coming in and buying stuff in big bunches at a time (yes..I again explained how far away I live etc) and gave example of a gal that came in the day before and had 80 cpns for one item she wanted to buy. I even said why not give rainchecks and let her come back and get the rest later ..put a 'immediate' purchase limit on items but can return later to get the remainder. Got the song and dance about how 'hard' it is to keep up with getting stock people want in large quantities including raincheck items etc so they are just limiting items/coupons to prevent having to deal with that. Ummmm..I thought stores were in business to 'sell' items to make a profit but apparently not this store. She 'alluded' to ..without coming right out and saying it..the tv show Extreme Couponing was ruining it for everyone etc. Soo..there you have it. Thank you TLC and those gals who are profiled on it.
I intend to call corp again today to relay what was told to me by the comanager I spoke to. There is not a coupon policy on their website that I could find so they need to put that up there if they are going to enforce rules like this as well. Will keep you updated on what happens but doubt it will go anywhere. Just makes me more determined to keep shopping at my local store here as they double to $.50 every day and prices aren't too bad there and now have found a store in another city that takes expireds to 30 days so that should help as well. Hoping so anyway..

In this economy I am sure stores are competing for those sales, people are buying less stuff than before this recession, most of us are watching our pennies closley....and for sure those people who did not use coupons before are sure using them now like the rest of us.

it's basically a 'call center' where they pass on the messages but also said they can't provide a Kroger coupon policy to me but will pass the message along to corp but can't guarantee a answer etc. HOWEVER...she was reading VERBATIM from Kroger coupon policy so she had it in front of her when I called.
Again I reinterated that I would tell everyone I know about this and take my business..and money!..elsewhere. We will see if anything comes of this and will let you all know if it does..

Extreme Couponing is having its effects at all stores in my area. The number of coupons are being limited and the quantities of items you can purchase are also being limited. Kroger hasn't changed its policy. However, "extreme couponers" are clearing the shelves and making it impossible to buy anything. They are also taking their sale ads to Walmarts for price matches and WalMart has empty shelves as well. I live a long way from town and can only go once a week. This has made it very difficult to buy groceries. Yesterday, I couldn't get milk! Kroger had a special 4 day sale on milk and their cooler as well as WalMart's was empty. No toothpaste, cheese, biscuits, etc. I could purchase a different brand,of course, but my pocketbook would be empty! I live in Auburn to and the Krogers here is awful. I rather go to Walmart and take the Kroger ad with me.
