I've only been to Wintergreen skiing but it is a nice year round resort. Haven't been to Smith Mt. Lake but there is a state park there with hiking,etc. and I've heard it is a lovely area. There are numerous hotels in the area. I'm in Va. Beach and you don't want to come here in Aug. Hot!!!

you could come to galax in august for the Old Tyme Fiddlers convention if you are in to that kind of music
our park becomes a village of campers and tents that week

Next to Back Bay Refuge with wild ponies and Sandbridge is not far from nice shopping/restaurants
