Just wanted to share some things with you. I was watching Dr. Phil (I know, alot of people don't like him) the other night and he had some of his family members on that were trying to lose weight. He has a nephew that weighs 460 lbs. Some of the words that he said to him really made me think differently about losing weight and the reasons that I want to lose weight. He explained to him that your body image should not control your slef image. Yur body image is just what you look like and too many people let it bring down their self image, which is what I have done.
Dr. Phil reminds Tony that it's easy to confuse body image with self image. "If I thought that changing your body image would change the man you are, I would tell you not to do it because you're too good of a man," Dr. Phil says
When he told him this, I was crying because I think that I have finally realized that the way that I look does not make me a bad, worthless person. I know alot of people think that Dr. Phil is mean and hateful to his guests but I really saw some compassion in him while he was doing this show. He has made me think different about who I am.
Just wanted to share and maybe this will help someone else. 1|1|Thanks Tammy.|2boys4amy|adkjang@hotmail.com|21:11:02|01/16/2004|

I really like Dr. Phil. He actually tells people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. That was a great post! I am just starting to read his book on weight loss. I will be sure to share anything of interest!

I didnt talk to him for an entire day. Just cause I am 60 -75 over weight does not make me a bad person. Hes watching his P's and Q's and making sure the T's are crossed and I's are dotted when he wants to say something

I would watch every Tuesday when he was on oprah and he is all about "tough love" and thats what ALOT of people need to break through the barriers and obstacles that keep them from happiness, healthiness...etc. Sometimes the truth really does hurt...but its not because its coming from a certain person..its because its the truth!!!!

i honestly would of been the first person to tell you that i thought dr.phil was an ass, but after watching his show and reading his book when it first came out, i decide i was going to take his challenge.... so i decided i had to change my body from the inside before i could change it from the outside....i was eating not because i was hungry, but because it was a crutch for going through any difficult time.....if things werent going good at home, i was comforted buy food......i quit smoking four years ago, and put on a whopping 40 pounds.....then four months ago, i had a heart attack, and was told that my weight had alot to do with it....scarey....
i could smoke and be thin, or quit smoking gain weight and have a heart attack.....to me it didnt make sense........
so the challenge.........
1. find something to comfort me besides food.(asnt easy, becase i guess i have been doing this for so long)
2. if things werent going good at home, find a release...ie...treadmill, bike, walking, talking on the phone, typing on the computer, anything but sitting in front of the tv eating.....
3. i found it easy to have a buddy system works great for me.....i have a friend that i call for moral support....
4. you have to like yourself, even love yourself no matter what you look like on the outside.....
5. we all have "bad days" when you want to be lazy, eat or even pigout, and thats ok, but rememer your goal........
6. set reasonable goals, i use to say im going to lose 40 pounds in 2-3 months, i would lose that but before i knew it, i put that weight, even sometimes more right back on.....
now my goals are 10 pounds in 2-3 months, and keep it off....

these are just some of my ways to keep myself going, and the mirror isnt my enemy as much anymore.........
i started this in november, and today is january 19, and to date i have lost 17 pounds, but 27inches......... i have gone down 2 pants sizes, and feel like i have just begun, i like what i see............
no special diet, i just change my eating habits, and my b/f has not always been the best for moral support, but it makes me more determined to keep going
