I don't want to make it sound bad but Mama J had sent out a legitimate email shortly after that funky one (there was a link in the message body but no subject line). I opened & read that 2nd one letting us all know she didn't send that 1st one. I replied to the 2nd one to let her know I knew she didn't send that 1st one & then she replied back, the 3rd email. When I attempted to open that 3rd one my computer closed out my browser & email & I got a notice that my computer was at risk & that I should click on some XP Security thing. Do NOT click on that either. I closed that out & tried to open & run my Malwarebytes but it wouldn't let me open it til AFTER I'd run my AVG to heal a threat. Now I just got done running Malwarebytes & it found 2 trojan.exe so those got deleted in a hurry.
But it also wouldn't let me open my browser til just now either. Everytime I tried to open Malwarebytes or my browser, a dialogue box would pop up asking me what I wanted to open it with, such as Adobe, Paint, MS Word, etc. That is NOT normal at all.
So.... I hate to say it but there is definitely something nasty in those emails. :(

6|2|If you ever get a virus that wont allow you to open any programs, opens upon start up, and wont let you run your antivirus programs....all you have to do is restart in safe mode, that will prevent it from running and blocking you out....then open your files and look for something by date that was just created at the time you noticed the issue...that will be the file to delete. Dont forget to empty your trash bin. If I wouldn't have been able to open & run my AVG, safe mode would've been my next step. Fortunately, I was able to heal some nasty thing enough to let me open, update & run Malwarebytes which found the 2 malware trojans.
Weird tho cuz all the while I was running AVG & then Malwarebytes, I was getting little pop ups telling me I was in danger & that some nasty stuff was running on my computer so I should choose to run that XP Security thing which is NOT legit. There was even a legit looking security shield on my taskbar by my clock. After the scans, deleting the trojans & a reboot, no more fake security shield or pop ups. :)

Malwarebytes found & deleted an infected file with Microsoft\Security Center\UpdatesDisableNotify so now my automatic security update thing is messed up. :(
I tried going into Start, Control Panel, System & Automatic Updates to set it that way & even tho the box is already checked to perform automatic updates, I still have the red Windows Security Alerts shield in my taskbar by my clock.
Geez! :(

Some of the files that Malwarebytes found & deleted start w/PUM & in researching what that means, it stands for Potentially Unwanted System Modification. So, Malwarebytes removed those threats, which is good, but what isn't so good is that the nasty stuff did mess w/my security settings.
Tomorrow I'll be calling my tech to find out what the deal is for sure, what's up w/that security shield in my taskbar & hopefully, how to fix that. When I got into the Control Panel, System & Automatic Updates, the box IS checked for Automatic Updates, so I'm not sure why that shield is telling me otherwise.
But I checked for updates & ran my antivirus & Malwarebytes again this morning & no threats were found. Hopefully that's a good thing. LOL
