8 0|0|Going to DC June 15th through 18th|allison77090|araallison@aol.com|13:43:49|05/04/2011|

My friend and I are taking our sons (both 10) to DC for the dates of June 15-18 2011. We wanted to stay in DC but the price of hotels about floored us! (most are 300-450 esp. during the week)

Now we have decided to stay outside of the city (but not too far) and take the metro station into town everyday. ( we know the boys will LOVE IT and we won't have to pay for parking everyday.

Is there a particular area and/or hotel that people would recommentd that is within walking distance to the Metro that would perhaps have a kitchen and perhaps a suite so we can all have our space that wouldn't cost our arms and legs AND is in a safe area. We keep hearing that DC is just gross. We would REALLY like to stay for around 200 or less a night. Perhaps someone has a great connection at any of the hotels.

Lastly, DOes anyone have any COUPONS or ADVICE on the different things to do or see? Or places to avoid. We really need coupons for food or things to see. I would soo love coupons for restaurants. What about Entertainment Book coupons? I am more than happy to pay for your postage and time with unused postage stamps.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Allison 1|1|ideas...|msallen|m-sallen@juno.com|23:52:51|05/04/2011|

Try googling the names of metro stations and "hotel near" to find ones within walking distance. DH always uses tripadvisor.com to check reviews before he books a room somewhere.

Here's some that came up for me...

Courtyard Dunn Loring Fairfax $149
2722 Gallows Road, Vienna, VA 22180

Hampton Inn $95
10860 Fairfax Boulevard, Fairfax, VA 22030-4318

Holiday Inn Express Springfield - I-95 S Of I-495 Hotel $156 (free shuttle to metro station)
6401 Brandon Avenue, Springfield, VA 22150

Hope this helps get you started.

2|1|I agree with the previous poster. We love using Trip Advisor. Also we just went to DC - one area that has a lot of hotels is ... (see inside)|anothershopper2|ejw14@hotmail.com|00:24:52|05/05/2011|

Crystal City, VA (it's basically Arlington). We stayed there while DH was on business. There is pretty much every other chain available from the really high end ones to the holiday inns, to the courtyard marriott etc etc. There are a lot of eating places at 23rd street that are very affordable. The only thing that was a little annoying is that parking was valet. I don't know about the other hotels since DH was on business so he didn't have a choice in hotels. There is a Crystal City Metro Stop on the yellow line (I think) or maybe orange. Anyhow - it's super convenient especially with nice weather and the train system is really nice and clean. And Crystal City is a very safe place and really nice - it's a bit of a yuppy place IMO.

Oh - there are also a lot of hotels at Tyson's Corner, VA. I haven't personally stayed there though, but I remember researching a few years ago through Trip Advisor. They were affordable at the time, so they probably are still affordable in comparison (I was looking for less than $130 for 2 people). But we opted for a hotel in the city. Good luck! You'll have a lot of fun there. 4|2|I stayed at the embassy suites in crystal city yrs ago..it was great|shopr7|shopr7@aol.com|08:23:20|05/05/2011|

we also go to tysons corner a couple times a yr. two huge malls that sit next to each other.... 3|1|I believe there's a lot of DC restaurants affiliated with Restaurants.com. You could go look at the list and see if it would be worth it to go that route ;)|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|08:09:11|05/05/2011|
