My nephew is getting married in August (2nd marriage) and they just sent their wedding registry on Facebook. The only thing on it is a way to donate to their honeymoon and the way it is worded suggests that this is the only gift they would like. At times like this poverty sucks. If we had cash I would send it for their trip, but I was planning on using my coupon skills to make a big basket of household supplies for their new life together. Otherwise I would only be able to maybe come up with about $15-20 and that looks so minuscule in a fund for 10 days in Hawaii.

What are your thoughts? Should I try to give whatever tiny bit of cash I can, or stick with my original plan and look for things they are likely using anyway and include a note saying something to the effect of "thought I would try to help you trim your budget and free up cash for the trip", maybe worded a little nicer than that, but that would be the jist of it.

Argh! 1|1|I think your basket gift is superb!|Arizona|vbj48@cox.net|12:39:21|04/28/2011|

I'm sure not everyone will send cash. These are hard times.
Gifts should be from the heart and your gift sure shows careful thought and love. 4|2|awesome gift, anyone should be happy to receive it.|QponFreebieQueen|QponFreebieQueen@gmail.com|14:30:11|04/28/2011|

2|1|I think you should give the basket if that is what you want to give.....no offense to you V, but I find 'requests' of money only gifts to be extremely tacky and ingrateful. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|14:27:33|04/28/2011|

I hate "give me money" registries! And Joy I was thinking that. I'm sticking with my idea. Thanks all! 6|1|Sorry I missed this post, but yes I agree, the basket sounds wonderful and I too, feel asking for money to fund their honeymoon is tacky~*~|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|18:04:13|04/28/2011|

9|2|Vanessa --- I say give them the basket :) Plus...|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|19:35:03|04/28/2011|

Write an eBook or something on how to coupon and work that system and give them a free copy :) Make them up a coupon binder too and put in some long-dated coupons. A trip to Hawaii is nice, but you'll save them more than the cost of their trip in a rather short time by showing them how to be able to afford their *next* vacation.

Do they already live together by chance? I have found that people who are already practicing at marriage typically want money because they already have the pots and pans and stuff.

11|3|Thanks Carly! I actually wrote a book about couponing (self published) and hadn't even thought about including it. Doh!|sunriver|sunriver@gmail.com|19:55:28|04/28/2011|

They had a large wicker laundry basket filled full of everything down to toliet paper. It was tied with netting so you could see what was inside. This young guy at my table (early twenties said you know they need all that stuff especially the toliet paper more than any of the other gifts! I though WELL PUT!
