hi all, praying this doesn't happen but am watching it very closely. my son is in the army - young family and even though they are pretty frugal they couldn't make it with NO paycheck. anyway, he's in the 1st infantry (GO BIG RED ONE) and i liked them on fb. they posted this website this morning to fb (thinking it's okay to share it here since they posted it on fb).

while those risking their life have to worry about providing for their families......I'm so deeply deeply disappointed in ALL of our representation...they should be ashamed of themselves.

If any of them wanted to even half way redeem themselves in the public eye....THEY would VOLUNTEER to furlough their pay WITH all those who are having their pay withheld UNTIL it's back up and running......what's that Obama was spouting earlier this year to all the federal employees???? SHARED SACRIFICE???? Seems to me....they expect only the LITTLE people to sacrifice while those living highest on the hog continue to bleed us dry.

Sorry for the rant,,,,,this bs drives me up the wall. 5|2|That is for this week BUT what if the shutdown happens and goes on for a long period?|littlewolf|CCsuterlab@aol.com|16:11:46|04/08/2011|

The last gov. shutdown lasted 21 days BUT the big difference then was there was a bill that made sure that the military received their pay during that time. There is NO bill like that this time around. I heard a "vague" mention of one that Sen. Bob Casey was trying to get passed. And YES, I know that IF we go without a paycheck that there will be "back pay" BUT how long will that take to get to each of us? 6|1|Some have mentioned going without pay|flyvanguard|flyvanguard@yahoo.com|16:39:41|04/08/2011|

although i am not a fan of senator claire mccaskill she did say that if the gov't shuts down their pay should be "suspended" also - but i never heard anything else about that. i thought it was a very generous statement on her part. 7|1|claire mccaskill...|blessedx5|I_am_blessedx5@yahoo.com|17:45:28|04/08/2011|

"You're so open minded that your brain leaked out." - Steve Taylor 9|1|it would be good if she could find families and distribute directly...charities have so many expenses alot of the money donated to them is eaten up before it directly helps families|blessedx5|I_am_blessedx5@yahoo.com|18:32:09|04/08/2011|

which is why the uso on base uses appropriated funds, that way all donations go directly to families....tho we are retired, the husband still works on base and people were in hysteria, this is so sad......if you check out the va website, they have posted all military are still required to report and they will get half a pay check on the 15th because they have already worked for it, but if the dont sign another agreement they wont be paid until one is signed....this is nuts... 10|2|Here is her direct quote|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|19:15:28|04/08/2011|

Washington, Apr 7 -

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) issued the following statement concerning pay to Members of Congress in the event that government services are disrupted by the lack of a federal budget:

"The current budget fiasco in Washington is a direct result of the failure of Democrats to propose and pass a budget when they were in control of the House of Representatives last year. It now rests with President Obama and this Congress to make sure that a federal budget is in place tomorrow. But if that does not happen, I have serious reservations about the fact that Congress and the President will continue to receive a timely paycheck during a government slowdown.

"Unfortunately, current law prevents our military men and women from receiving their paycheck on time if government services are interrupted. Because of this discrepancy between the pay of our troops and Members of Congress, I will personally be donating my pay to a non-profit organization serving our military families."

saw on fb Campaign for Liberty
"To avoid a shutdown, the White House and Congress have reached a deal to cut $38.5 billion in funding through the rest of fiscal year 2011. In other words, the joke's still on you, America."

12|2|I wonder how much of it was lies and hype....the people in DC remind me of the 'slacker' at work, they run around looking busy but not really getting anything done.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|06:45:16|04/09/2011|

He was saying what happened at the last minute that couldn't happen all week? Why did they have to wait til the last minute? Also, they are still NOT heroes for "stopping a shutdown" as the problem is still not fixed, yet they seem to want to look good right now for coming to some type of agreement.

Crazy, crazy, crazy... and the tax payers are not any better off than we were a week ago, yet this consumed our Congress, who were paid to beat this dead horse in the media all week. 14|4|Yes, exactly! IMHO, they arent heroes at all for being made to start to fix the mess they created in the first place...and of course, it's too much to ask that they learn from this and do better next time. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|11:56:22|04/09/2011|
