my 15 yr old autistic son is obsessed with anything to do with space
when he gets something in his mind...he dont stop till he sees or does whatever
in June is the last launch at least for yrs and he is wanting to go see it soooo bad
so we are gonna try to take him...........i need any info on how to make this trip hassle free...LOL i know im asking for a mircle.........
any suggestions......

People come from ALL OVER to see the space shuttle launch and the LAST thing you want is no where to stay............ if you are definitely going then book your hotel now. Also, if you want to be anywhere near the launch center call them TODAY and see if they have anymore tickets. People start lining up on the highway 2 - 3 days in advance of the launch date just to get a good view so this is not going to be an easy or hassle free trip. Be prepared! If not, you're going to end up watching it from the side of the road or on top of a building somewhere that is no where near the actual launch site. (We went to Kennedy last year the day after the launch and talked to people who watched it.) Also, when booking the hotel make sure you book for more than 1 day....... here in FL in June we have dang near a 100% chance of afternoon showers everyday and that can impede the space shuttle's launch...... you may want to plan for at least a week vacation to be sure you get to see the launch. Be prepared for a LONG wait........ not only while diving to the launch site (if you get tickets) but while waiting for the shuttle to actually take off. It usually does NOT go as planned. Since your child is autistic please take extra precautions to be sure he is ready for the long wait and has enough things to do to keep himself occupied, and to keep yourself sane too. There are SO many things that can go wrong with a shuttle launch that there is no way I (or anyone else) can guarantee that things will go as planned. If I can think of anything else I'll be glad to share....... but these are the top, most important things you can do NOW to get ready. Good luck! I hope you get to go and have a fabulous trip! :)

I just looked up the June launch and it is on the 29th at 3:48pm.......... that is almost the hottest part of the day (only off by 1 hour) so be prepared for that.
"The rain typically rolls in in the late afternoon, say 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., ... Monthly morning average relative humidity is 85% for June through ... The average high temps are in the 90s and the humidity makes it feel a lot hotter."
Is there any way ya'll could try for the April 19th launch? That one is at 7:48 pm and that will be MUCH cooler.
