hi all, need you to weigh in on a topic my dh and i have differing opinions on ...

when claiming charitable contributions on taxes does everyone claim the money tithed to the church or just the contributions made (money or items) to other organizations?

would love to get everyone's ideas ... thanks 1|1|Yes you should use this tithed to the church |STEVE|STEVBOLT@WMIS.NET|16:54:46|04/02/2011|

POLICE STATION TOILET STOLEN…Police have nothing to go on

3|1|are you asking ethically? I have had this questioned asked myself and my personal stance is|blessedx5|I_am_blessedx5@yahoo.com|18:25:00|04/02/2011|

It may not be a matter of ethics for some but for us, we choose not to claim our tithes on our taxes because we see it as getting credit for what we already gave back to God, our thoughts are its His (Gods) so we make no claim to it whatsoever besides what the scriptures say outlining the blessings of tithing (which we have and are fully experiencing in our life) 4|1|thanks so much blessed...|flyvanguard|flyvanguard@yahoo.com|18:35:57|04/02/2011|

i was asking ethically. we do have a paper trail and it's all "legit" but i felt the same way you did.

if we meant to give "x" dollars but then claimed it on our taxes and got "x" dollars of credit on it then we've not given the full "x" amount that we originally intended.

just for the record ... we did claim it this year but i'm trying to convince dh that maybe we should not in future years.

thanks to all ~ s 5|1|went through this with the husband too so I know how you feel..took some time and SOMEONE ELSE telling him the SAME thing I did years later before he agreed...LOL|blessedx5|I_am_blessedx5@yahoo.com|19:24:24|04/02/2011|

I understand what you are saying ethically....but you can always tithe exactly what you saved by claiming it......Just like Tollman said, look at it as another way to help the church even more.

When I first wondered this ethically, I was told "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s" ....and then was told that no one said it wasn't OK to try to lower what we give to Caesar...LOL. My conclusion was that by claiming ANY tithing/donation I wasn't reducing what I had given to my chosen church/charity.....I was just reducing what I was giving to Uncle Sam (which I have no problem with whatsoever as long as I know I'm doing so legally)

If it bothers you ethically, why not figure your taxes with AND without it...then donate the difference it makes? It all boils down to whom you'd rather direct the excess money to....God or Caesar..... I like having the "say" in where my money goes versus whatever huge bailout or war the government is going to fund next. Just a thought that might keep harmony in the household.

without trying run my mind around something trying to reason or figure it out I just leave it alone and simply give, God gives seed to the sower(and I love the cycle) so I just leave it alone....

Amy's idea may be a blessing for someone, or even a way for a couple to meet in the middle....

10|1|I claim all checks written and also some cash given in offering, plus food and clothing ect...i try to claim most donations as i can give more to help others, plus i give directly to some families and don't deduct...hth...Iris|BMOREGAL|bmoregal2000@aol.com|23:52:26|04/03/2011|
