Government Issues New Child Seat Guidelines Today

http://www.wtae.com/r/27259527/detail.html

Big changes are set for today when it comes to the guidelines for car seats.
The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now say children should ride in rear-facing car seats until they are two years old.
This reverses what parents have been told for years, that children should be turned around shortly after the child turns 1 year old.
The new guidelines also state that some kids should ride in booster seats until they are as tall as 4 foot 9 inches, 12 years old, or the lap-belt fits them.
According to the new study, children under the age of 13 should always ride in the back seat, booster seat or not.
The groups are basing their news advice on evidence from crashes.

12? are they freaking serious? 12? I'm dumbfounded!

And EXACTLY HOW are we to KNOW FOR SURE that the lap belt fits them? Come on! We need more information!

"Maryland law requires children to be in a car seat or booster seat until their 8th birthday, unless they weigh more than 65 pounds or are 4'9" or taller. The law further states that the car seat must fit the child by age, height and weight, and the child must be secured in the seat and vehicle according to the instructions of the vehicle and car seat manufacturers. 5|2|I agree there... where are the legs going? At 1, their feet are already starting to hang over. I guess it is better to let their feet fall asleep from being up in the air!|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|19:50:55|03/21/2011|

Told me all these things. I was so tired they were
All standing up, blaring the music, and no one
Was above 12, the smallest one is 6 and should
have been in a cat seat and Dashi bless his heart
took OFF his seatbelt while the cop was
blasting me out and looking in the window

ROFL

I think he just knew I was exhausted. They were
SO loud, we were all going to tai Kwon do
so they had on ghis and Dash's sparring
gear was hanging up in back. OMGoodness!

Anyways, he just let us go if I promised to get
the carseat and because the air bags could be
turned off and if we only went the couple of
blocks home, which we did.

These were all new rules to me! I felt like a
fool he told me he had been following me
for 'quite some time'. I was just really glad
we didn't have the smallest one in the luggage
area of my suv since we were a seatbelt short!
