Hi: do kids still have birthday parties? Up to what age? How much would you normally spend on party favors/loot bags for each child. What themes are currently the most popular?

I am a senior and I just want to know if this "electronic" age has ruined all the formerly fun things for kids. One of my adult daughters said that my grandson, just turned 10, had 2 friends over to play video games. Not much of a celebration, if you ask me!! Is he just too old for a party now, or are parties just a thing of the past?? Now that many moms work outside the home, are they just too busy?

Comments please.

TIA

Kathryn 1|1|I think it depends on the child, and what the NORM is for where your daughter lives. My daughter turned 8 in Jamuary, and we had a B-day party for her at an art studio. I see nothing wrong with just having a couple of friends over for a small celebration.|dlpavitt|dlpavitt@att.net|11:19:44|03/10/2011|

She invited like 5 of her favorite friends, so with her brother, his friend and the other kids and a relative, there were like 9 kids. We ordered in $5 pizzas, had juices boxes and waters for the kids. Bought loot bags and hit the dollar store for the party supplies and the "loot". Then we spent a fortune on a pinata (cost like $70 after all the stuff to fill it, the pinata, etc.). The kids had a lot of fun. It was like 2-3 hours long and we ran out of time. Played pin the tail on the donkey and a couple of other games and had prizes. My daughter had a lot of fun

I work full time too and we did it on a weekend

i decorated the church hawaiian style and had a blast
we played ring toss on a dolphin nose and pin the tail on the donkey
plus i made a sucker tree put X amount of suckers in it did a guessing game and gave a prize for closest guess and then guests could pick out suckers from the tree to take home

i did assorted candies and bubbles stuff for the goodie cups i had gotten that had hawaiian flowers on them

we had pork products since i couldnt dig up the church ground to roast a real pig

we dressed in hawaiian style clothes and had luau music playin in the back ground

i hope to get my remodeling done here at the house so we can decorate all out for an evening luau for kevin's 9th birthday this june so i can light the tiki torches and such

My daughter (14) had 4 friends over for a sleepover, they had cake/ice-cream, pizza, snacks, played cranium, bingo, got goodies bags (make-up, candy..), then later watched a movie that we rented before finally going to sleep.

Thanks:)

6|3|My daughter is turning 8 we are bringing her to an ice cream parlor that has an ice cream bar and bakery attached. It is $3 a head and she invited 5 close friends and we invited my sister and her hubby. And they get to make their own ice cream sundaes and each get a cup cake as well. And I got some items from the dollar store and that is it. She is really excited. I could have done the same at home but hubby told me to take a break from cleaning for the day which I thought was nice of him :)|sarahjones|beautiful1000000@gmail.com|14:31:44|03/11/2011|

had his party at the YMCA in town. hour in the gym (or you could choose the indoor pool) and an hour in the party rrom with cake/ice cream/presents. We had 15 kids there.

Last year we had a bowling party - 1- 1 1/2 hours of bowling and then party space with cake/ice cream.
